When Luffy tried and failed to use Emission - - Hyougoro explicitely referred to his Hardening as a feat of Ryuo. That's because Ryuo refers to Armament Haki in general. The difference is in the name. Imbuement is applying properties of Armament Haki into objects.

He may be about other things, but not that. That’s not a lightning effect consistent with advanced Armament or Conqueror’s Haki. It’s the coating effect of Armament Imbuement.

DF items should a) not have been a recent invention or Vegapunk invention at all, b) DF items should have been and should be far more common to the story.
