From the moment Akainu was created, he was fated to get defeated by Luffy. I don't know what you expected? Why would Akainu need to get nerfed? Luffy has already defeated Kaidou. Akainu is pretty much on the same level at best, if anything he will get buffed.

I definitely agree about the Strawhats not being close or interacting like they used to. It's definitely one of the biggest problems with post time skip One Piece. Because that bond between the crew really felt special at one point, but now it's almost like they are strangers.
