I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I love Saturn as a villain way more than I expected.
He's such an unapologetic piece of shit. The story never tries to make him seem sympathetic or any deeper than what he is. He's a loathsome, vile garbage heap who you want to see die...
Eh, I honestly wouldn't be putting too much stock into what Whitebeard was saying.
A lot of people seem to think based on what Whitebeard said that the World Government's defeat will happen after Laugh Tale, but I don't think that lines up with the direction the story is going in. Saturn is...
Well it only makes sense that the villain who's been resting on his laurels for 800 years (Imu) goes down before the ambitious upstart shooting for the skies.
In One Piece, if you don't have any ambition you've already lost before the battle's started.
Why else would they be introducing this entire plotline with Devon?
If Saturn dies without anything finding out about it, the BB Pirates can manipulate the World Government with Devon as a double agent
I agree that Kizaru's fight will be inconclusive, but I really do think that Saturn's going to die this arc. He's nothing special without his DF and it's been established that the Punks have anti-DF weapons.
Plus now we've got this whole potential plotline of Saturn being impersonated by...
I think you were speedreading Egghead.
Saturn is absolutely malding. He's (supposedly) the highest authority on the planet who rules over all the "insects" inhabiting the surface, and he is getting dunked on left and right.
Saturn's orders from Imu were to capture Punk Records for the World...
Counterpoint: Egghead was supposed to be a quick in-and-out mission for Saturn and it has quickly spiraled into probably the single most humiliating disaster the World Government has faced in its entire 800 year history. There is absolutely no reason to think Saturn isn't going all out right now.
I think Kizaru vs Luffy/Sanji is gonna have a conclusion that ends with neither of them being defeated.
The Saturn shit is 100% copium though. He's really not that strong. There's a reason he sent in Kizaru before he went in himself.
As a character I think he's a well-executed scumbag.
I do like that he's not anything crazy powerful. Was worried about powercreep going off the rails in the final saga but it looks like it'll be fairly manageable
