I don't think it's a niche application of, it's just letting it flow into your hands without forcing it. I doubt Zoro wouldn't know how to do it considering how he was the first to take the step into CoA, but it doesn't mean Yamato can't learn it herself. If anything, I expect a CoC faceoff...

Zoro is a CoA specialist who knows "Ryuo". He'd definitely break her chains with his sword but her interactions were with Luffy only (for thematic purposes). That doesn't mean she won't be able to pull it off during the fight if her haki blooms. But time will tell.

Makes sense in terms of themes, but she was unable to break her own chains without Luffy helping her. Unless she blossoms in this fight with Kaido, we can't tell for sure.
