I'm not that strict as you are, but at least from what I remember they ruined mainly that second fight with S-Jinbei. They had the occasion to improve the Sanji saving Edison but they didn't. Sanji vs Nusjuro was pretty good (I wanted slightly better animations, and they give it also good...

Yes, Oda has a lot of room to integrate/add new abilities to his devil fruit. We have seen that the MMAs can exist even if the target is not sleeping anymore. Maybe there is also a way to extract MMA from people who are not even sleeping? Also we have seen the form with only the face...
