Oda has always baited when it comes to random characters potentially joining the crew. You can argue that with carrot, Bonney, Lilith, etc Yamato is significantly more than just bait. It’s like saying Jinbe joining was just bait which people were doing all the way till onigashima

Everyone will be an ally in the final war. So will kinemon and the rest of Wano That’s not even subversion at that point it’s just Oda having repeat the same thing over and over again for no reason and no reward
