Personally I have never considered Teach as a big villain, just an opportunist. Specially because in OP world there are many villains having entire countries fucked up for years. How many times did Teach meet luffy, 2? And they never fought or directly attack each other, that's not how villains...

Probably because almost 100% of the story revolves around those villains sort of. In OP they feel like steps in the way, we always knew about 7 shichibukai and 4 yonko + admirals and so on.

This :suresure: I dont think there are any "western woke" representations tbh. Oda has been recycling the same 4 oppression plots, and with pretty absurd and out of character resolutions for quite some time. Mainly to build hype, thats it.
