I find that very interesting. Recently, some voices have been raised regarding the neglect of the rest of the Straw Hats. Since Zoro beating Mihawk is his "endgame", I believe it is still early for that to happen.

He was introduced as an antagonistic rival to Luffy and as a villain. He was portrayed as someone who earned his bounty by causing high civilian casualties. That contrasts One Piece's "good" line of characters. Now the point is he has changed? I haven't been convinced so far.

That would mean he would retire to a totally background role. Further, Oda would need to craft a new purpose for him, since he stated he was going for the One Piece before.
