General & Others “Right behind Rayleigh” Behind, BEHIND. The Okama fandom takes another L for premature glaze over meaningless words.

Genuinely, what do you think the term “shoulder to shoulder” means in the context? What could giants who believe all arguments end with a physical confrontation of might mean when comparing three characters? Is it that Gabans Legend is as great as the Pirate Kings? Is it that the three have equal standing on the ship like how it was used for Arlong/Jinbe and Shanks/Buggy?

Or most simply, was it just odas way to point out the power of the three top Roger pirates. After all, Oda pointed out that Ray and Gaban were already stronger than Oden earlier in that speech.

It definitely doesn’t mean strength after the earlier text said “behind Rayleigh” unless you some how believe he’s behind Rayleigh, but equal to Roger at the same time.

Please clarify.
1.) He's shoulder to shoulder to Rayleigh

2.) He's behind Rayleigh

Therefore, he is <= Rayleigh

If he was < Rayleigh, how could he stand shoulder-to-shoulder below him?

Sassenachs busy translation cherry picking have gotta be some of the saddest sods on here.:risicheck:
Oda just made it much easier to argue Sanji ~ Zoro, Viz translation doesn't change that. He can be relatively equal to Zoro without being exactly equal. Hence >=.

Viz ain't saints dude, they have done things like this recently related to a conversation between Shamrock and Loki

This is sandman's translation and interpretation

I believe myself that the logic behind VIZ translating "Alongside/Along with" to "After" lies on the fact that Rayleigh was the already known subject in the conversation, while Gaban was being introduced in the moment of their speech, so "after" Rayleigh, we get Gaban. Anyways, "alongside/along with" makes way more sense, since it matches perfectly with the "Right Arm" and "Left Arm" concept (and i believe that was the whole point Oda wanted to make here), since it doesn't establishes an hierarchy, but says that they were "especially strong aside from Roger himself" and were "legendary figures shoulder to shoulder with Roger"

By the way, thats how Japanese readers are interpreting the whole thing, interesting

Bro really went quite when i said nah after just means pysically standing behind him
:Think:
Like, doesn't feckin everyone in a pirate crew literally stand shoulder to shoulder when it is time to throw hands?

Laggards be pretending that metaphors don't exist.

The entire conversation is regarding Gaban's strength but suddenly the Giants be talking about where Gaban was literally smeggin standing in a fight.

It's simple really, would you say Sakura stood shoulder to shoulder with Naruto and Sasuke vs Kaguya? Absolutely.

Would you say the legendary sannin stood shoulder to shoulder together? Of course.

Does it have strength implications? Absolutely, it means that they are significantly stronger than everyone else in their respective groups that isn't included in their sub-group, e.g. - the sannin were above every other leaf shinobi at the time, the rooftop 5 stood shoulder to shoulder against the 2 Yonko and they were the 5 strongest supernova etc...

But it doesn't mean the individuals in the sub-group are close in strength. Relative in the sense that they collectively shit on everyone else, not in the sense that they're on par with each other.

E.g. - the SHs have had the M3 since forever. Luffy has been able to absolutely bodybag Sanji at times - even as far back as vs Arlong who was high-diffed by Luffy yet was utterly unimpressed by Sanji. And still, they are known as the Monster Trio - not because they were on par with each other; Sanji has never been on par with Luffy. But because they were vastly superior to everyone else, e.g. - on Saboady pre-TS, Luffy made sure when they split into 3 groups, that each group had one of the M3. Because these three are the protectors of the crew and the main fighting force of the SHs. Just as Roger, Rayleigh and Gaban were the legendary main fighting force of the Roger Pirates.

Its a legit clown show
Either you take every word for literal, which in this case they talking about Gaban pysically standing "BEHIND" Rayleigh (which he obviously knows how dumb that sounds)
Or he acknowledges this is a dialogue in context from start to finish, meaning they talking about gabans strength all the time, including using the word strength
Bro than makes a thread and is like "Behind is strength related, shoulder to shoulder is not"
lmao

They still couldn't explain :

Oden = Rogerbeard

Arlong = Jimbei

Buggy = Shanks

Look Sanji is like Gaban a strong character when he gets compared to the whole crew as monster trio but when the trio get compared :

• Even Luffy knows Sanji is that weak :

• Luffy when he talks about Zoro :

Gaban is the same, he couldn't stop Loki in his prime with Giants's help who Shanks could beat.
