WB died by his disease. It was very clear once was said he was getting sick since he took of his medicine to fight.

Roger just was executed because he got a disease that would kill him not because he lost to anyone.

I agree that it's unusual, but I see that as a stylistic choice made by Oda because he needed to make it very visually clear that Shanks lost his arm. It was also meant to be an important panel that showcased Shanks' gesture; he sacrificed accuracy for emotional impact.

Can’t see the sea being a viable option for kaido as he is the strongest in land,sea,or air it almost makes sense that he can do something to the sea or under the sea that no one expects

If you ever heard about the history of chapter 1, Oda said he didn't draw Shanks losing arm but editors give him that advice otherwise that scene wouldn't hit. And they were right.
