They are the main characters, but side characters we last saw 20 years ago are getging more focus than them, this is why one piece is soulless
Then how did you get past the first 500 chapters of the story?
He dropped tons of hints that Zoro and Usopp would have focus in Wano and Elbaf but did he follow through? No, Zoro backstory was written in an sbs while Gecko Moria gets his lineage revealed in the manga, is that fair for a meaningless side character to get more importance than a main character whos been in the story since the start?

This is a good thing lol
The main characters are not the center of the world, and the narrative does not treat them as so.
So side characters getting a chance to be fleshed out in cover stories and flashbacks where the Strawhats aren't born yet is a good thing.
Zoro's lineage is just not that important.
Making Moriah a Kozuki could be big depending on what Cross Guild does with him, if anything at all.
The main characters are not the center of the world, and the narrative does not treat them as so.

As I said here recently, I'm sure Zoro will get much more stuff later on because Oda is saving it for later for his own reasons. That might just be cope, I might be wrong but there's still plenty of time, reaoma, opportunities for Zoro to get development.
Same for Usopp given what's going on currently but I'm certain the Blackbeard and Shanks arcs will be important for Usopp too.
Oda is being amibigious with Zoro's past for a reason. he's far too popular in the fandom overwhelmingly for Oda to neglect him this much purposely and so brutally. it's blatantly obvious zoro is heavily inspired by Odas own beloved (in his eyes), mentor, the man he idolises so much to this day (unfortunately).
Zoro will be fine. I think Oda is trying to avoid being predictable by having Wano not revolve around Wano and Elbaph around Usopp or he just needs to rush the story more so he's focusing on story first.
Even if so, I still strongly believe Usopp and Zoro like every other SH will get major development by the time the story ends and I will stand by that.
Oda randomly gave us a huge bombshell with Brook out of the blue. Vinsmoke Sanji came out of nowhere too, anything can happen.
I think Oda is trying to be more unpredictable and he's admitted to rearranging the story for the final saga and also wanting to change it when people predict his story. His words recently even made the most famous and beloved (AFAIK) Japanese theorist Yuderon (whose design matches Shaka, which has become brutally ironically now too) to quit making theories out of guilt and "fear".
Normally I'm way more cynical about the story and Oda but I'm trying to be optimistic about a few things, as if Oda has really fucked over characters like Zoro, Usopp, Kidd, Law, maybe Urouge, Weevil, Kaido, Big Mom, Hawkins etc so terminally like this, then I don't see any point to keep reading the series anymore. Its just far too insulting and far too unforgiving, far too much of a butchering and thus damage for me to ignore.

I hope Moria and Perona are safe. I also hope that Doffy gets out. He could add a very intriguing element to the mix. Maybe an alliance with CG for a short time? Using Doffy’s connections for CG to get the resources they need. Doffy gets to be entertained by watching the chaos then he moves in at a pivotal moment for revenge on certain people…
