And also

”Character is hinted at 15 years ago or whatever”

”Character gets a somewhat detailed half front silhouette”

”PART of a character’s back silhouette is revealed 10 years ago”

”Character gets mentioned a few more times”

“Character FINALLY gets revealed and ends up looking completely different and the overall reactions are really quiet and disappointing”

:ronalugh:
Between the penultimate and last ones - Shanks appears on panel and says “It’s you…” with that person grinning in the panel next to him, even though in the story that person is halfway around the world, break next week and probably the one after that too :endthis:

What’s funny too is that I have a friend irl who told me Oda would beat the “that man” allegations soon.

then Oda goes and posts this at jump festa 💀
Ask him who it is...

I have found another translation:

I didn’t know Oda was posting those Jump-festa-letters yearly. But then – I am new here. Read the manga years ago but stopped at one point. My interest spiked again with Vegapunk and Egghead.

As I understand it. The fight between that person and that person is going to be a large surprise for us. So, as of now, we will definitely not assume that those characters are going to fight against each other.

I don’t know if this fight will happen in the main story line or in a side-story aside from Egghaed. As Oda has mentioned it to have a back story, I would assume it will happen on Egghead because here he has more room to give it the volume for it – but I could be wrong here. If Oda makes space for a side-plot and puffes it up a little, then ok.

I wouldn’t also outrule a fight between two people with a power inbalance. Why do I say this? Because there is a huge robot lying in the scrab yard. The person who wants to operate it just has to know how to wake it and know its power source. Meaning – the person who wants to operate it will either need to be very interlligent or familiar with the technology.

Unfortunately with translation there is often subtle information lost – I would like to know which of those translated texts comes closer to the original wording of Oda. Well, we have to work with what we have… .
