Because by WCI they knew sanji was not conqueror's material, but now that Zoro has it they wanna pretend he is.

Because they knew WCI proved he wasn't going to get Conqeuror's so to help themselves cope, they said Zoro wouldn't get Conqueror's either.

When the manga revealed Zoro did in fact have Conqueror's, they had no other option than to pretend Sanji would get it too despite knowing better.

There were a lot of fans that believed in Zoro's CoC since they learned that CoC is based in someone's will power and is a sing of someone who aims to be at the top. Myself included.

Almost all the Zoro fans that I spoke with believed in Zoro's CoC since Fish-Man island, some of them believed in it before the TS even started.
