General & Others A rival for Zoro

#84
tashigi has the same dream as zoro?
iirc she wants to take back meito from evil pirates or something like that
She said she wants to become strong enough to take back all the meito from pirates and bounty hunters. This includes becoming stronger than Zoro and Mihawk. That by definition is the same dream as Zoro. To surpass Mihawk. Just because she didn’t say it’s for the title doesn’t mean the actual dream isn’t the same.

I see what you mean but I don’t see it happening imo
It seems like eos isn’t that far off and Tashigi is still very far off zoro let alone Mihawk

Epilogue will have Zoro vs Tashigi. Where tashigi will be an admiral and have collected all the blades except Zoros is my guest.

EOS Tashigi will be a war hero by taking down Fleet Captain Cavendish in my opinion.

Cavendish is a fodder compared to Zoro.
By the the recent events even doflamingo looks weak compared to Zoro.
But i don't think we saw the limit of hakubas abilities it was like a wolf fighting sheeps.
He didn't even do a named technique in hakuba form.
It's just a nice mutch up for me, like the physically strongest swordsman vs the physically fastest swordsman.
But i don't have proofs that hakuba can reach Zoro's level of course it's a fight i really wanted to see back in dressroza and i think it would be cool

Now, the WSS title and the path to reach it... it's a very cool concept to me. But I think that Oda creating someone else with great drive and ambition who wants to achieve the same goal Zoro is aiming for and setting up a real rivarly between the two throughout the story would have been a very, very interesting dynamic, from which the story and the characters themeselves could have benefitted.

I would have loved such a thing. I like Zoro a lot and I am sure that I will very much enjoy the things he will achieve further down the line. But I personally think that this hypothetical character would have added a lot to the story.
That kind of character would have been left in the dust by Zoro's current achievements and feats just like Luffy's current achievements and feats left his alleged rivals like Kidd and Law in the dust.

Zoro's Rival Should have been a protagonist , Someone in the crew that Luffy recruited who also wanted to become the greatest swordsman. Give them an arc where they betray the crew like Nico Robin except make them leave officially and then turn them into an antagonist. Like Sasuke.........Would've been an interesting Dynamic.

Or at the very least Make Sanji a Swordsman as well, then maybe their interactions would have more weight.

The Road To Harmony
Let's keep something mind: swordsman are the most common type of combatants in the One Piece world. To be recognized as the best of them is a big deal because of how many of them are out there. Not every actor aspires to be the best actor ever, but it doesn't change the fact that the field is stacked with a lot of talent who will beat you out in auditions, or just be chosen automatically due to their name. No one wants to lose a sword duel, even if they don't have the dream to be the best. Zoro has to separate himself from every swordsman in the One Piece world, and beat every single one he comes face to face with. That's not easy.

How Oda spices it up is not through a constant rivalry with someone of similar abilities and goals, but rather Zoro's devotion to someone else, that he's willing to risk his ambitions for.

That said, he does have a back and forth with Tashigi that's a role reversal of the one he had with Kuina in his childhood.
