How Oda spices it up is not through a constant rivalry with someone of similar abilities and goals, but rather Zoro's devotion to someone else, that he's willing to risk his ambitions for.

That said, he does have a back and forth with Tashigi that's a role reversal of the one he had with Kuina in his childhood.

there are lot of swordsmen but how many of them are confirmed top tier ; mihawk, shanks, fujitora. that is all

I would have loved such a thing. I like Zoro a lot and I am sure that I will very much enjoy the things he will achieve further down the line. But I personally think that this hypothetical character would have added a lot to the story.

its good he doesnt have rival, he alone can stand on top, same for Luffy, he doesnt have rival, he alone will stand at top
Supernovas are no rival of Luffy, the progress Luffy and Zoro made is way too much compared to tge pirates of same generation, that is exactly why they cant have rival and they will stand at top....Top where people reached in 40 years or more, these 2 will reach within 3-4 years, so its impossible for them to have rival :goyea:

Just like Pirate King Dream is only mentioned by few, but it's obviously Dream of almost Every Single Pirate
Like is there a Soccer Player who doesn't dream of Ballon d'Or?

Same thing with WSS, it's not mentioned but almost all Swordsmen dream of having such Title
You can find some Swordsmen who don't try to become WSS, just like you find Pirates who don't try to become Pirate King
But in general, 90% of One Piece Pirates dream about being Pirate King
WSS is even more, because it doesn't include Pirates only but basically any Swordsman with any Occupation & Affiliation

Zoro himself said that anyone who holds a Sword is his Enemy & Rival that he must Surpass
To the point that he calls even Mr. 1 a Swordsman & wanted to beat him even though he refuses to be called such & considers himself just a DF User & Assassin
