Akainu is one of the strongest in One Piece but I'd say he's weaker than Kaido and definitely weaker than Gear 5 Luffy

In a 1v1 Whitebeard would decimate Akainu but it wasn't a 1v1 it was 3 admirals, the entire marine army and blackbeard vs a sick whitebeard.

Context matters though. Whitebeard and Ace both had their guard down it wasn't a 1v1 fight its a war Whitebeard vs everyone. Whitebeard is also sick too.
