Kaido vs Luffy has the least tension in any boss fight of Luffy's.


All Oda had to do was to let Luffy die for 3 or so chapters for there to be tension. But that would have been useless with the Nika fruit nonsense

The idea of Doflamingo beating Luffy wasn't possible for a number of reasons, mainly because 1. he was afraid of someone else and 2. because he was the first real enemy after the timeskip. Luffy pulled out a dramatic new power up, but faltered and we were stuck waiting for one big shot while he literally got carried. Good fight but some meh ideas.

Katakuri also never had any right to beat Luffy, he literally wasn't even the boss of the arc.

Kaido on the other hand, the idea of Luffy beating him solo lasted for one whole chapter out of a 50 chapter saga. We still are only like 50/50 on if he'll conclude the fight. You had people on YouTube for months saying the raid itself would actually fail and of everyone Luffy's ever fought, even Krieg who left him to drown and Hody who left him bleeding out among the people who had him poisoned, etc...it was the only fight where Luffy was like "I thought I was a goner."

At no point did it seem like anything bad was going to happen to Luffy, but I would say that Luffy vs Doffy is the most tense for the sole reason that we had two other characters that could have potentially died in that fight, those being Law and Bellamy.

Doffy vs. Luffy definitely. Everyone knows Luffy's gonna win but there was still some sense of danger and tension until the very end. We had more reasons to feel tense about Luffy vs Katakuri but Oda somehow successfully managed to remove "tension" from WCI as a whole.

Luffy vs Kaido was Tom and Jerry.
Luffy vs Doflamingo could have the most tension, if not for the fact that there are 3 characters that can just destroy Doffy but chose not to.

Luffy vs Arlong, Luffy vs Crocodile and Luffy vs Lucci each has more tension than 3 fights above.
