Character Discussion Aokiji Is Akainu’s Equal In Terms Of Character And Plot Relevance

If Oda couldn't even have Kizaru go down as a villain when this was the arc for him, fat chance it happens to Kuzan. Him being featured on that Vegapunk final spread despite Blackbeard presence suggests that narratively his role extent past the BBP. This is not a mere matter of strenght, Mihawk wasn't featured because he likely has little story purpose aside from losing to Zoro
The stab obviously nerfed him. The point of it was to let Garp go down sooner as opossed to having a prolonged 1v1 with Kuzan.
It still doesn't change the feats. If the stab affected Garp's AP then Kaido fans have to deal with the uncomfortable reality that 0.01HP Zoro put a scar on him and outsped him in 1v1 combat.
Characters in anime perform their strongest attacks even when they're at their weakest.
I highly doubt Akainu and Aokiji created that bomb crater in the middle of PH with their first attack, it was probably the fight deciding clash while both were at deaths door.

Imo it served two purpose :
-Excusing Garp relatively rushed defeat compared to Whitebeard as Oda couldn't dedicate too many chapters to Hachinosu due to Egghead being the main story
-Keeping Kuzan full arsenal for later, as Oda is an author who doesn't like characters showing their full power til it's their time in the spotlight. Or Kuzan is pretty much guaranteed to have an important role later.
