Speculations Aokiji will fight Garp to prove his loyalty to BB

#21
When Blackbeard captured Koby after the Amazon Lily incident, I've always thought it was a random plot choice... WHY was it Koby specifically of all people? he's just a regular Marine Captain... he could have captured Helmeppo instead, or EVEN BETTER, Vice Admiral Yamakiji, whos higher ranked and is worth more to the WG/Navy than Koby...

What links both BB and Koby together for him to choose kidnapping him? this:

Blackbeard is a calculative man who researches his opponents before engaging them and plans ahead before making any move.

He knew about the strongest logia fruit, so he decided to join a Yonko's crew to increase his chance of getting it
He knew about Magellan's poison so he resorted to recruiting Shiryu and getting the antidote first.
He knew a war would break out if Ace was captured and WB tried to save him, so he used it as a distraction to get the fruit he wants.
He knew about one of the Wano Supernovas making their way to Winner island and made sure to prepare an ambush for them.

so would it be far fetched to say BB also researched Koby's background after the Rocky Port incident and found out his mentor is Garp the marine hero?

probably not.

what would this info accomplish though? if anything, kidnapping Koby is more of a liability because that makes you a target of Roger's rival and one of the strongest navy soldiers

but its not about himself, its about his newest crewmate: Aokiji.

we have seen before in Chapter 0 that Aokiji greatly respects Garp and looks up to him

he also respects him enough to take a backseat when hes present and not interfere with his family DESPITE being HIGHER RANKED than him (admiral > vice admiral)

so back to my previous point from above: Blackbeard is a calculative man who researches his opponents before engaging them and plans ahead before making any move.

would it be far fetched to say he doubts the loyalty of his newest crewmate who is literally a former marine admiral?

nope.

so how would he make sure this former marine is 100% on his side and not a backstabber? by having him fight ANOTHER marine and beating him.

and what better target is there to accomplish this task other than the MARINE HERO himself who all marine soldiers look up to?

Koby is just a key. He himself is not important, but his relationship to Garp is, because BB can lure Garp with Koby and have Aokiji fight him to prove his loyalty to the crew.

The timing is also perfect, because BB knows the WG/marines are busy dealing with the reverie mess, revolutionaries, new yonkos, cross guild, and now SHs in egghead (he knew about wano so no doubt he knows about this one too), meaning their mannpower is low, so Garp would arrive without much force backing him or a fleet, making him an easier target to tackle, ESPECIALLY because hes literally stepping into BB's home turf and HQ...

narratively speaking, the story will also gain more from Garp losing rather than him winning:

1- re-establishing the old gen vs new gen plotline, by having an old legend like Garp defeated by a new yonko's crew
2- giving more hype to BB and his crew, who are literally future endgame villains
3- exploring aokiji's currently mysterious character and affirming whose side hes truly on (justice? just-ice? we'll see...)
4- giving more incentive for Luffy to fight BB (his brother and his grandpa fell to him)

the true question is whether Aokiji would actually kill Garp like BB would want or just freezes him like he did with Saul (another friend he respected enough to let him live) but i believe its the latter (because of Oda's fake-out death fetish)

Eitherway, BB stands to gain from all of this chaos.

TL;DR: BB captured Koby to lure Garp so Aokiji can beat him and prove his loyalty.

P.S all Garp beating Akainu in Marineford debates will end after this :myman:
Kuzan and Garp relationship is overestimated and frankly i don't think many would care at all lol. Kuzan desperately needing to prove loyalty to Teach by killing someone that he barely got on-panel interactions with is too corny no matter how one sugarcoat it, I'm glad Oda's a shock value whore who loves subversion of expectations so he probably won't go this route as long as this speculation keeps trending.

Garp dying at all has a very low chance lol.

Yep, sounds good but it’s not the sort of thing Oda would do.

Then again, he can’t keep copping out of having bb actually topple someone stronger than Marco or absalom forever.
Blackbeard should be winning fights left and right, but after the Rayleigh incident we can be sure he hasn't reached his prime as EoS Blackbeard isn't supposed to be fazed even by Primebeard if we're being realistic.

There's no way that Garp gets an L in this battle, Oda respects the old legends way too much especially since this could be the only time we see Garp fight. However, at this point Teach can't handle another fumble by Oda, that said I think they're both coming out with a W

I mentioned to @Blackbeard earlier about a scenario where Law pushes Teach to a near death state using nail seastone, and this being a trigger to Blackbeard's zoan/ Yami awakening. With Garp's arrival I think this is the perfect chance for such scenario, I do believe old Garp is equal to the yonko, and a slightly unhinged Blackbeard (due to Law's fight) could potentially be beaten to death by a fresh Garp (with Teach also putting out a good display of strength ofc).
Something must trigger his awakening

I don't think Blackbeard cares enough about the loyalty of his crew members to go to that length to test Aokiji.

He recruited the most vile and despicable pirates in the World by making them fight to the death. At any given moment, anyone of them can betray him, and he knows it.

These guys are just a means to and end for him. If they stick by his side, then good, if they betray him, it's probably no skin off his back. He knows his core members are 100 percent loyal. The ones who came later are most likely expendable in his eyes.

Because Blackbeard is just THAT dangerous.
He has no feats to back him being a danger so far. I can see Luffy being the whole messaih JoyBoy nika..an actual threat to Imu...dont see any reason why BB who is just collecting DF so far for his shitty crew mates and running away from everywhere and hasn't done anything significant which effected WG to take any big step...it feels same as Drake being undercover in Kaido's...it did nothing.

BB doesn't even seem like a threat anymore to me...I wonder why an admiral has to go undercover for it tbh.
Look at all BB has managed without anyone getting close to taking him out. Best chance would have been if Shanks went after him before Ace lost. But BB was too smart

- Hid his power from everyone (bar Shanks and Buggy)
- Protected under WB so Shanks couldn't get him until BB killed Thatch
- Matter of pride for WB pirates, Shanks couldn't really chase BB down when Ace did. Same scenario as BM came to Kaido and asked nicely if she could kill Luffy to regain her respect. WB himself wanted to leave BB be, did he actually know how strong he was?
- BB became more powerful and was smart enough to only target WB remnants staying clear of yonko. The other yonko knew a fight against BB would be tough and that someone else would target their territory if they engaged in war. Just like when WCI got attacked by BB without BM there.

BB is not a threat, he is THE threat (apart from chaotic Luffy who just wrecks havoc wherever he goes). Best bet would be to poison BB's food, snipe him somehow or sink his ship full of hammers but they all seem to be waiting cautiously while BB gets stronger by the minute.

Tbh I only read the title so on it I would say yeah I agree it’s highly possible to be the case, May as well go as far as Aokiji will freeze Garp to the point he seems dead, but in reality it’s a way to save him from actual death by BB.
