Questions & Mysteries Are the Admirals limited to only three at a time?

Can there only be three people with the position of Admiral at the same time? Garp was constantly being asked to be an Admiral. so would there have been Four at one time if he took the Promotion? or is it limited to only Three?

I think so, 3 seems to be consistent if there could be more then why wouldn't those two admiral candidates not have gotten the position

We could of had 5 admirals right now but 3 seems to be the standard

As for Garps refusal

They likely just asked someone else

I think why is it three not four at that time, is because Oda got a reference from The Tale of Momotaro: Journeys to Onigashima, because Momotaro animal friends are the nickname of the pre ts Admirals. So Momotaro had three friends with him, which is :
- Dog - Aka-Inu which is Dog
- Pheasant - Ao-Kiji which is Pheasant
- Monkey - Ki-Zaru which is Monkey

Don't know if Oda gonna change it tho
