Well, I finally reached the point where I think we can say the celestial dragons aren't actually the problem.
I know how ridiculous it sounds to say on the surface, but hear me out.
Loki's flashback set out to prove one thing: Harald wasn't the best of the Giants, he was the best the world had to offer. Any of his failures after he reformed himself from his disgusting and debaucherous youth, we're purely due to him, being too kind and too willing to sacrifice himself for his own people and his own country, so that they could escape the eclipse of their history.
Yet almost immediately after being cursed by Imu, the one who betrayed them most, Harald changed.
He was no longer the kind king of Elbaph. He flipped and became a total monster.
"Indeed. That Harald is gone. I am now the Great One's Vassal."
I don't think that Garling and Super Sommers are inherently evil people.
I think they're the inversions of what they normally are. Once Imu used his powers on Harald, i believe it's functionally, the same thing as Domi Reversi. But maybe with a bit more control. Harald's personality completely flipped.
There's no reason to believe that this is only going to be limited to him. If this is how Imu's magic works...
Then Super Sommers and Garling most likely are incredibly committed, loving family men.
They aren't evil.
They're possessed by the devil.
When we see Garling meet Shanks, this is his legitimate emotion. This is one of the few parts of him that hasn't been twisted. There's no reason that Imu would want celestial dragons to hate their own family members, the way he had Harald brian murder his own son, Loki.
Garling's affection for Shanks here is one of the only things that has not been stolen from him by the King of the World, Nerona Imu.
I believe that Garling truly loved Magnolia, the woman he promised himself to, and who delivered his babies Shanks and Shamrock for him in earnest, waiting for the day he returned to marry her and start their life together.
I believe that Garling pleaded with Imu to let him marry Magnolia, but Imu forbid this because she was a Davy. Instead, Imu ordered Garling to kill her.
So I think that Super Sommers actually really loves families, and is a real family man. I think there's a good chance he's actually a good dude at heart who has a really tragic fucked up back story.
Gunko clearly was a kind person at some point, or Brook wouldn't have associated with her in the first place. And the fact that she killed the king must have meant it had something to do with her being possessed.
Same with Harald.
Super Sommers and Garling are probably good men that would actually feel really horrible if they figured out what they were doing. Even Super Sommers showed concern for Killingham when he summoned Zaza.
The celestial dragons are horrible people. But at this point, the reason why is very simple.
Even if they wanted to be good, they're not going to be because of the demonic magic.
It's like bartolomeo's barrier physically, keeping them from being good people.
Because of Imu's powers, they have literally no hope of actually being good people.
Myosgard is proof.
Homing for all his flaw is actually understood properly that the only way to change things was to leave. But he was very stupid and ignorant, and needed to go to a place that would actually be able to protect him, rather than just wildly walk around and go oh yes, we were celestial dragons, but we wanted to live with the common folk.
No horrible idea. He was that ignorant.
Even the celestial dragons that try to be good people are fundamentally almost incapable of doing it as adults. They have been that molded by demonic magic.
The only ones that really can are kids like Rosinante and Doflamingo. The nature of their environments clearly show that if you take a celestial dragon child when they're young and place them in an environment that environment will actively determine a lot about who they are.
Rosinante got rescued by a kind grandpa dude. Doflamingo was recruited by gangsters that wanted to make him a criminal kingpin.
It's not a wonder why they turned out the way they are. Not to mention everything else.
Even the celestial dragons that try their absolute best to be good people will just be crushed by Imu.
The only way to escape is really to escape as a child and then find good parents.
That's it.
Very interested to see Super Sommers and Garling's backstories.
