General & Others Are we expecting too much from a Shonen series?

"But...but...Whole Cake Island is the worst arc by far"
Me: :laughmoji::laughmoji::laughmoji::laughmoji::laughmoji::laughmoji:
Whole Cake Island was FOR SURE the worst arc post time skip, just an absolute and unnecessary mess from top to taint. If not for Foxy and the Davy Back Fight, it would be the shittiest part of the entire series with a bullet...at least there was some point to it, unlike the latter.

I confidently make the claim that Wano already exceeded WCI as the worst arc post ts.

WCI, up tunil the chateau collapsed, was an actually very enjoyable arc. It had structure. Sanji was the center, the arc slowly build up around him and the tea party was a great pay off but sadly it wasn't the end of the arc.

In Wano though, NOTHING makes sense. It feels like Oda forgets what he drew the moment the chapter comes out.

To each their own...there are plenty of aspects of WCI that I liked individually, but as a whole, it’s decidedly less than the sum of its parts. To reference the topic of this thread, I expected a much richer story than we ended up getting, and the lack of fights or crucial development for anyone except Luffy was criminal for how far we’d come in the series to that point.

I have comparatively fewer problems with Wano so far than I did and do with WCI. Totally understand why you disagree, but even with all its flaws, the current arc is leagues more enjoyable for me than the two sluggish years we spent in Big Mom’s territory.

I agree with both of you right here:cheers:WCI might not be the best arc for most people but at least it makes sense while Wano is just a pile of dumpster that doesn't lead to anywhere LOL:feelscryingman::feelscryingman::feelscryingman:

@MarineHQ62 You brought up an interesting point - if the Straw Half Pirates had escaped (WITH JINBE) after the wedding cake massacre, I might not feel so negative towards the entire arc. That would have been a perfect place for them to leave with what they came for...I’ll never understand why Oda took that momentum and crushed it by spending six months on them running away.

Luffy's power level was the reason. I thought about it on several occasions and I'm 100% confident now that Oda not ending WCI after the chateau collapsed was a last minute call.

He probably thought that Luffy has to claim the YC1 position in WCI otherwise there would be no logical explanation how Luffy could ever even come close to defeating Kaidou.

I really think that making the Luffy v Kata fight was the only reason for that.

Since the beginning of the Wano arc i lowered my expectations so much that i thought it was impossible for my ass to be getting disappointed.

Oda delivered and actually put out this shit-show of an arc, and sadly this is reality.

For the sake of me staying sane let's not get into the Oden topic.
Can not agree more

I had a lot of expectations for Wano especially since Oda and his editors hyped it up so much. It was also going to be when we see SH's reunion again since what, Dressrosa?

However, the pacing has been so slow. Udon was boring and very generic, just the typical "Luffy is charismatic, he makes a speech and everyone loves him!". The villains barely have much panel time while the SH interaction we were looking forward to has been minimal too. Instead, we focus on SH with side characters like Yasu, Tama etc.

We've spent so much time in this arc and there has yet to be a moment that made me look forward to the next chapter. There's so much more that I can go into but I'll stop here.

As for WCI, I found it enjoyable up until the cake chase.

True; the second Katakuri was introduced right before the ceremony, I knew there was no way they’d be leaving before he was defeated. Love that fight, just wish it had occurred in a different part of the arc that didn’t make it a flimsy justification for how long we spent there.

People ALWAYS expect too much. That's one of the cornerstones of any fandom.

All I ask for are interesting characters, a well written story and interesting locations in One Piece. Fights and power levels don't concern me much, even though the number 1 thing I still ask for in One Piece is a 1v1 Robin fight. For me, the best thing about One Piece is its world building.

I used to think that this forum and the One Piece fandom were the most unreasonable with their "expectations", but then I saw the Cyberpunk 2077 fandom and its Subreddit and oh boy, does it make Worstgen look like a spotless saint.

I'll try not to go off topic here on this thread, but its a video game that for many (myself included) has been their most hyped game for 2020 of all time(as well as for like almost 9 years now), especially now that The Last of Us Part 2 has sunk in a hole now. The things the fans want from that game they were saying on their subreddit are sometimes beyond unreasonable, im talking building houses, raising families, thinking its an immersive sim when its just a open world RPG. The game is too bright, no third person camera, the whining and annoying complaints are endless. Its ridiculous.

just like the fanboys of this Worstgen forum sometimes.

Isn't that the game that allows you to customize your genitals? Yeah I wouldn't even bother with that:jay-he:
