Grimmjow was nothing like Renji c'mon now. Renji was introduced as a subordinate lackey with a soft side. Grimmjow was a Captain with his own squad, piping down other Espada and running rampant for completely selfish reasons. Legit the only thing in common between the two is both are brash, if that's enough to be a something 2.0 well damn.

They serve the same purpose throughout the arc and by the end Ichigo has a begrudging respect for Grimmjow and it’s reciprocated.

Ulquiorra is the Byakuya of that arc and Grimmjow the Renji. Even Pl wise that adds up

Same purpose =/= same character. Renji and Grimmjow are literally nothing alike, only thing that links them is Kubo's lack of creativity for an arc's flow/formula. Hueco muendo is just SS arc all over again. With this logic orihime is rukia 2.0.
