EZIO AUDITORE From ASSASSIN'S CREED
Ezio Auditore da Firenze is arguably the most iconic protagonist from the Assassin's Creed franchise and one of the greatest Main Characters in gaming history.
Ezio goes from spoilt, rich playboy who is arrogant yet can somewhat back it up to a master assassin who has to shoulder the fate of the world while balancing the intricacies of his family as well. His masterful journey ends with Ezio in his golden years when he meets the person that reinvigorated the Assassins (Altair), symbolysing that Ezio was seen as worthy enough by Altair as his successor and Assassin.
Ezio's journey and development happens across multiple games. We follow both his character development and development (and, later, detoriation) of his assassin skills, basically growing up and growing old with Ezio.

LEON S KENNEDY From RESIDENT EVIL
Leon is a protagonist of RE4. He's an agent coworking with USSTRATCOM, set on the field alone to save president's daughter from a Spanish Village controlled by a cult corrupted by parasites. He's a type of a stoic protagonist dropping from time to time cracking text or scene. Most popular of those is him seeing a throne room and using a moment he comes to the chair to just sit and pose there.

GERALT OF RIVIA From THE WITCHER III
Geralt of Rivia is the main protagonist of the Witcher franchise, serving as the main protagonist of the games and novels.
He is a witcher, a magically-enhanced mutant who slays monsters for a price, and is the adopted father of Ciri. Despite the fact that witchers have a reputation for being heartless and the mutations are meant to kill emotions, Geralt still has a conscience and generally helps others because it's the right thing rather than to get paid, though he rarely goes out of his way to admit this.
Despite his name, Geralt does not come from Rivia: he grew up in the witchers' keep of Kaer Morhen in the realm of Kaedwen. In the interest of appearing more trustworthy to potential clients, young witchers were encouraged to make up surnames for themselves by master Vesemir. As his first choice, Geralt chose "Geralt Roger Eric du Haute-Bellegarde", but this choice was dismissed by Vesemir as silly and pretentious, so "Geralt" was all that remained of his chosen name. "Of Rivia" was a more practical alternative, and Geralt even went so far as to adopt a Rivian accent to appear more authentic.
Later, Queen Meve of Lyria knighted him for his valour in the Battle for the Bridge on the Yaruga conferring on him the formal title "of Rivia", which amused him. He is, therefore, a knight of Lyria, and not a commoner. His status is, in one example, acknowledged during the first Witcher game, when he is twice invited.
Geralt was the son of sorceress Visenna and (presumably) a warrior called Korin. Shortly after being born, Geralt was taken by his mother to the Wolf School — the Kaer Morhen stronghold (from Elder Speech Caer a'Muirehen meaning "Fortress of the Old Sea"). Geralt survived numerous mutations during the Trial of the Grasses, through which he gained practically superhuman physical and mental abilities (increased reflexes, speed, strength and enhanced hearing) surprisingly well.
Because of that, as one of the few he was selected for additional experiments, and of the few he was the only one that survived. His white hair, completely lacking pigment, is a side effect of these experiments. After finishing the witcher training, he embarked into the world on his horse called The Roach (he gave the same name to every one of his horses) to become a monster slayer for hire.
Although Geralt did not believe in destiny, he demanded the unborn child of princess Pavetta and her husband Duny as a reward for his services. As the child turned out to be a girl, he did not take her. However, fate or blind chance caused Geralt and Ciri, the daughter of Duny and Pavetta to cross paths thrice, and after the death of her grandmother, queen Calanthe, Geralt ended up taking care of the girl and loving her as his own daughter. His best friend was Dandelion the bard, while his lover and the love of his life was Yennefer.

What's interesting about Geralt is the fact that Geralt beats the bad guy, but ends up feared and hated by those he saved. He breaks the curse, only to be spat in the face. He slays the Knight to save the Dragon. He rescues the vampire from the wicked princess. He breaks Beauty’s hold over the Beast. He’s so cynical and laissez-faire but he keeps trying to do the right thing. Geralt makes so many mistakes and does so many despicable things, but its hard to classify him as anything other than a hero. He resigns himself to neutrality, tries to play his role and apply his trade, but even so finds himself unable to sit idly by in the face of evil; the greater or the lesser.

Arthur Morgan of Red Dead Redemption 2 has emerged as the best protagonist to come out of a Rockstar game to date. With a combination of amazing writing, impressive deeds, and genuine likability, Arthur easily establishes himself as one of the greatest gaming heroes of his console generation.

HANDSOME JACK From BORDANLANDS
Jack always believed in heroes ever since he was a kid. He was abandoned my his parents and left in care to his grandma that abused him. Jack's mental stability has been harmed in the process but despite all of that he still kept dreaming.
Jack started as a low tier corporate worker in Hyperion. He didn't have connections, he didn't have money, he didn't have any advantage over his peers except his grand ambition to be the Hero of the Story.
He married and a had a daughter called Angel. Angel was special because of her abilities to control technology, which in return made her the target of bandits that wanted to harness her power. Jack loved his wife and daughter, he was a caring husband and father and never wanted anything to happen to them. Alas fate had it otherwise, his daughter was kidnapped by bandits. Jack pleaded the bandits to release his daughter but they refused over and over. Angel in a fit of rage and emotional overload used her powers to control turrets that shot all bandits down... but also her mother in the process.
Jack mourned the loss of his wife, he was struck by grief and sadness. He saw that Angel is unable to control her power so he put her in a form of stasis. Jack returned to Hyperion, murdered his boss and assumed the control of Hyperion Corporation, vowing to destroy every single bandit in the universe.
"The road to hell is paved with people with good intentions"
Jack was ruthless to Bandits. He commissioned every single resource of Hyperion to further his goal. He used the powers of his daughter (that was still in stasis) to achieve his goal. He refused to let her go until the universe was safe for her to enter it.
Jack soon discovered the existence of Vaults, ancient throves of untold treasure, energy and power. He wanted to harness that power to finally achieve his dream, so he started to hire Vault Hunters to find the vault for him. Upon discovering the first Vault he learned of the existence of powerful entities that have unfathomable power. He sought to control it.
However Vault Hunters turned on Jack and prevent him of gaining control of first Vault. They saw that Jack is ruthless and would commit mass genocide if in possession of the Vaults. Jack resented them for it and started to hunt Vault Hunters in order to eradicate them.
Jack's daughter Angel helped Vault Hunters get an upper hand on Handsome Jack and in the ensuing fight Angel was killed by Vault Hunters. Jack now lost his wife and daughter and his descent into madness became ever harder. He had no more reason to save people and bring stability, he was now on collision course to kill those that harmed him.
Jack is eventually killed.
"No, no, no... I can't die like this... Not when I'm so close... And not at the hands of a filthy bandit! I could have saved this planet! I could have actually restored order! And I wasn't supposed to die by the hands... of a CHILD KILLING PSYCHOPATH!! You're a savage! You're a maniac, you are a bandit, AND I AM THE GODDAMN HERO!!"
In his last moments the still believed he is the Hero. He still believed in his mission to bring stability to the universe, to make sure no parent has to go through what he went. He was willing to sacrifice everything to achieve it. His methods were cruel but one can argue world is crueller.
Fast forward few years, we learn that Jack created and engram, an AI of himself that in case of his death can be implanted in his double or any other person. Main character Rhys combines with Jack and two of them share a connection.
We learn more of Jack, we learn that he was an ass, but he honestly believed in bringing peace. He was cocky, arrogant, cruel and much more... but underneath all of that he was still a loving husband and father. He saw the universe still filled with bandits, still suffering going on, he tried to persuade Rhys to save him, to give him a body. Rhys refused and proceeded to remove engram of Jack.
Jack pleaded with Rhys. Again experiencing death, Jack begs Rhys to save him, that he doesn't want to go, that he is scared, there is nothing but abyss in death. Rhys knew Jack is right... but that Jack is also Jack... so Rhys removed final piece of Engram and Jack vanished into nothingness.
Even in death, his legacy was kept alive by his actions.
He is the man that had good intentions but very poor execution.
He saw himself as a Hero... but as Jack once said
