Funnily enough, I do think Goku is actually still plenty unique compared to his metaphorical kōhai because I don't think the likes of Deku, Naruto or Ichigo copy him in how much of a recklessly self indulgent, unrepentantly selfish arse hole Goku can be in the pursuit of getting his high off of fighting.

Goku has his charms and differences for sure. But ultimately, he is the blueprint from which shonen mcs are created from. They are not carbon copies of him, yeah, but they do possess a vast amount of similarities.


Most others are copies of Goku in some way, shape or form, some improved, some worse tho.


But that's why we have standout MCs like Light or Eren for instance (pre-final chapter), who are morally complex and ambiguous.
