THE BRACKET

Satoru Gojo - Jujutsu Kaisen
Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most overpowered yet charismatic characters in recent anime. As a teacher and one of the strongest jujutsu sorcerers in the world, Gojo exudes confidence and swagger, often toying with his enemies due to his unmatched abilities. However, beneath his seemingly carefree attitude lies a deep understanding of the system he’s part of and a desire to break free from its constraints. Gojo’s strength, both physical and ideological, makes him an enigmatic figure—he’s a mentor to the protagonist, Yuji Itadori, but also a symbol of rebellion against a corrupt jujutsu society.

What makes Gojo so compelling is the juxtaposition between his overwhelming power and his complex personality. While he may seem like a typical “cool” character, his goals and motivations are far deeper, especially when it comes to the world of jujutsu sorcery. His desire to reshape the future and his frustration with the limitations of the system drive him to take risks that put him at odds with others. Gojo’s effortless charisma, coupled with his ideological struggle and his dedication to his students, make him one of the most intriguing and dynamic characters in the Jujutsu Kaisen series.

VS

Midoriya - My Hero Academia
Izuku "Deku" Midoriya from My Hero Academia is a character defined by his unwavering resolve and unyielding belief in heroism, despite starting life without any quirk in a world where superpowers are the norm. His journey is one of constant growth, perseverance, and self-discovery, as he gradually earns the right to be called a hero. Deku’s character arc focuses on his desire to protect others and his struggles with living up to the immense expectations placed on him after inheriting One For All. His growth is not just in his abilities but in his mindset, learning what it truly means to be a hero.

What makes Deku stand out is his relatability and determination. He’s not perfect; he’s a normal boy who simply wants to do good, and it’s this purity of heart that makes him so easy to root for. His journey isn’t just about gaining power—it’s about understanding responsibility, empathy, and what it truly means to be a symbol of hope. His perseverance in the face of adversity, combined with his willingness to learn from his failures, makes him an inspiring protagonist who shows that anyone, no matter how ordinary, can become a great hero.

VS

Motoko Kusanagi - Ghost in the Shell
Motoko Kusanagi, the protagonist of Ghost in the Shell, is a deeply philosophical character navigating the complex relationship between humanity and technology. As a cyborg with a fully artificial body and a human brain, she grapples with her own identity, the meaning of consciousness, and the blurred lines between machine and person. Kusanagi is a brilliant, skilled, and often detached individual, and her role as a counter-cyberterrorism agent allows her to explore these existential themes while investigating crimes in a high-tech world. Her intelligence, independence, and internal struggle with her identity make her one of the most iconic female protagonists in anime.

What sets Motoko apart is her philosophical depth. Her journey isn't just about action but about exploring complex themes like artificial intelligence, the soul, and the nature of existence. As she confronts powerful forces, both external and internal, Motoko’s character evolves, challenging both herself and the viewer to question the nature of humanity in a cybernetic world. Her emotional complexity, coupled with her ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, makes her a standout character in the genre. Kusanagi's blend of philosophical exploration and action heroism makes her a timeless and influential character.

VS

Yami Yugi/Atem - Yugioh
Yami Yugi, also known as the spirit of the Pharaoh in Yu-Gi-Oh!, is a character who embodies the power of friendship, destiny, and self-discovery. While he initially appears as a mysterious and enigmatic figure within the card game, his journey is one of growth and reconciliation with his past. As the spirit of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh, Yami Yugi's character arc revolves around his search for his true identity and purpose, particularly in relation to his connection with the protagonist, Yugi Mutou. His power is not just in his ability to play the Duel Monsters game, but in his ability to understand and guide those around him.

What sets Yami Yugi apart is his depth as a character. His initial cold and calculating demeanor gives way to a more compassionate, noble, and wise figure as he uncovers more about his past. His connection to Yugi is central to his growth, with the two of them helping each other face their respective challenges. Yami Yugi’s journey of self-discovery, combined with his role as a protector and guide, makes him a complex and beloved character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! series.

VS

Alucard - Hellsing
Alucard from Hellsing is an iconic and terrifying vampire, known for his immense power and unyielding thirst for battle. As a servant of the Hellsing Organization, he is tasked with protecting England from supernatural threats, but his true nature is far more complex. Alucard is a being of immense suffering, created from centuries of violence and bloodshed, yet his personality is one of both madness and intense loyalty. His cold, calculating demeanor hides a deep existential conflict, and his overwhelming strength often serves as both a curse and a weapon. Alucard’s tragic past, combined with his dark sense of humor and unrelenting cruelty, makes him one of the most compelling and mysterious characters in anime.

What makes Alucard stand out is his internal struggle with his immortality and the meaning of his existence. Despite his god-like powers, he is not invincible—his desire for purpose and understanding is a constant source of tension throughout the series. Alucard’s philosophical musings about life, death, and his place in the world elevate him beyond a mere monster, making him a fascinating and multi-dimensional character. His complex nature, along with his enigmatic relationship with his master, Integra, adds depth to his character, making him both a terrifying and tragic figure in Hellsing.

VS

Yuno - Black Clover
Yuno from Black Clover is the embodiment of talent, ambition, and a relentless drive to prove his worth. Raised alongside the protagonist Asta, Yuno is a natural genius in magic, a stark contrast to Asta’s lack of any magical power. Despite his seemingly perfect abilities, Yuno’s journey is not just about surpassing others but about proving himself and finding his own path to greatness. He is not the arrogant rival; instead, his reserved demeanor and deep sense of responsibility for his friends and his kingdom make him a compelling and multi-dimensional character. His unwavering pursuit of strength, coupled with his desire to protect those he cares about, shows that even the most gifted individuals face their own personal battles.

What makes Yuno particularly interesting is his inner conflict. While he initially seems detached and driven solely by ambition, his relationships—especially with Asta—reveal a more vulnerable and emotionally complex side. His rivalry with Asta isn’t just about competition; it’s about a shared desire to be the best, but also to support and push each other forward. Over time, Yuno evolves into a leader and a protector, showing that even those born with the greatest potential can struggle to find their true purpose. His growth and the emotional depth behind his stoic exterior make him one of the standout characters in Black Clover.

VS

Sakuragi Hanamichi - Slam Dunk
Sakuragi Hanamichi from Slam Dunk is the epitome of a brash, overconfident, and often comedic character who undergoes an incredible transformation. Initially portrayed as a high school delinquent with no interest in basketball, Hanamichi's journey is one of self-discovery and growth. His natural athleticism, combined with his boundless energy and determination, make him a force to be reckoned with on the court. While his lack of basketball knowledge leads to countless comedic moments, it is his relentless drive to improve that endears him to fans. Hanamichi's transformation from a misunderstood troublemaker to a key player on his high school basketball team is both humorous and heartwarming.

What makes Sakuragi stand out is his emotional journey, especially his evolving feelings toward his teammates and the sport. His development as both an athlete and a person is at the core of Slam Dunk. His rivalry with other players, particularly Rukawa, and his relationship with Haruko (his crush), push him to become more self-aware and mature. Hanamichi’s blend of comedic charm and heartfelt growth make him an incredibly lovable protagonist. His passion for basketball and his deep sense of loyalty to his friends elevate him from a comedic figure to a genuinely inspiring character.

VS

Guts - Berserk
Guts from Berserk is one of the most intense and tragic characters in anime. Born from a dead body and raised in a brutal world, Guts' life has been one of constant suffering and survival. His sheer will to live, combined with his indomitable strength and unwavering desire for vengeance, make him an unforgettable protagonist. What sets Guts apart is his relentless determination to keep fighting, even when faced with insurmountable odds. His journey is about more than just physical battles; it’s about confronting the deep emotional scars left by betrayal, loss, and the horrors of war. Guts’ internal struggle, particularly with his feelings of anger and his relationship with the dark forces in his life, gives him a tragic depth that is rare in protagonists.

What truly makes Guts compelling is his vulnerability beneath the hard exterior. Despite his brutal nature, he is haunted by his past and constantly grappling with his own humanity. His relationships with characters like Casca and his eventual quest for redemption add layers to his character that make him more than just a typical warrior. Guts' character is defined by the tension between his fierce desire for revenge and his search for meaning in a world that seems to have none. His journey of resilience, personal growth, and grappling with destiny makes him one of the most iconic and complex characters in anime.

VS

Jolyne Kujo - JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Jolyne Kujo, the protagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, stands out as one of the most unique and powerful characters in the JoJo series. Unlike previous JoJos, Jolyne is a young woman who begins her journey in a dire situation—imprisoned for a crime she didn't commit. Throughout the series, she proves herself not only as a formidable Stand user but as a determined and courageous individual who fights not just for herself, but for the future of her loved ones. Her character is a refreshing take on the JoJo legacy, blending strength with vulnerability, and showcasing a journey of self-discovery in a world filled with bizarre enemies and supernatural challenges.

What makes Jolyne particularly interesting is her evolution from a somewhat reckless, impulsive character to a mature and strategic leader. Her bond with her fellow Stand users and the loyalty they show each other becomes the driving force behind her actions. Jolyne's tenacity, combined with her ability to stay grounded despite the absurdity of her world, makes her an incredibly relatable protagonist. Her personal growth, courage in the face of adversity, and determination to overcome her fate make her one of the standout characters in the JoJo universe.

VS

Punpun - Goodnight Punpun
Punpun from Goodnight Punpun is a deeply tragic and complex character who encapsulates the pain, confusion, and beauty of growing up. The story of Punpun is both incredibly personal and universal, as it follows his journey from childhood into adulthood, dealing with the crushing weight of family trauma, mental health struggles, and the disillusionment of life. His life is portrayed with emotional rawness, often depicted in a surreal and symbolic way, reflecting his inner turmoil. Punpun’s character is one of the most heart-wrenching depictions of adolescence and the transition into adulthood, dealing with themes of love, loss, and identity.

What makes Punpun stand out is his emotional depth and the way the series captures his psychological and emotional struggles. His journey is one of trying to make sense of a world that often seems bleak, and his self-destructive tendencies and inability to connect with others add layers of complexity to his character. Punpun is a deeply flawed and tragic figure, and his path toward understanding himself is filled with darkness and fleeting moments of hope. His emotional complexity, coupled with the series' exploration of real-world issues, makes him one of the most profound and compelling characters in modern manga.

VS

Bojji - Ousama Ranking
Bojji from Ranking of Kings is a unique and heartwarming protagonist who defies expectations. As a prince born with physical limitations and deafness, Bojji is often seen as weak and incapable by those around him. However, his true strength lies not in his physical abilities, but in his unwavering determination, kindness, and refusal to let others define him. Bojji’s journey is about proving his worth to the world and, most importantly, to himself. His character is a beautiful exploration of inner strength, as he confronts challenges far beyond his years, all while maintaining his innocence and purity of heart.

What makes Bojji stand out is his resilience in the face of adversity. His courage, compassion, and ability to form meaningful relationships with others make him one of the most inspiring and lovable characters in anime. As he learns about the complexities of the world and navigates political intrigue, Bojji’s growth as both a leader and a person is heartwarming and profound. His determination to overcome his challenges, combined with his moral compass, makes him a standout character in Ranking of Kings.

VS

Mob - Mob Psycho 100
Mob, the protagonist of Mob Psycho 100, is a young middle schooler with immense psychic powers, but his greatest struggle is not with his powers—it's with his desire for a normal, peaceful life. Mob is kind, humble, and often socially awkward, yet his psychic abilities are so powerful that they constantly put him in dangerous situations. Throughout the series, Mob's growth is less about learning to control his powers and more about learning to control his emotions and understanding what it means to be truly strong. His internal conflict between wanting to live a simple life and the overwhelming pressure of his abilities forms the emotional heart of the story.

What makes Mob particularly compelling is his deep emotional complexity. His kindness and vulnerability make him relatable, and his journey of self-acceptance is both heartwarming and powerful. Mob’s growth isn't just about becoming stronger but about understanding what it means to be human. As he faces challenges and builds relationships, Mob's development into a confident and balanced individual is both satisfying and inspiring. His journey is a powerful reminder that true strength comes from within, and Mob’s evolution into someone who values relationships and emotional growth makes him one of the most memorable characters in anime.

I know you're a big fan and there's wrong with it

however for me he is a mid character who aura farm like Jinwoo
I am a huge fan.

Tbh, I only responded because that Gojo canon image was perfect for a reply lol.

It also gave me a chance to flex these Gojo essays I wrote in the past
:endthis:

One thing I've noticed that's not talked about nearly enough is how tragic a character Gojo is. Man. The dude just found out his best friend, his one and only best friend, is 'alive' at least his body is, then got sealed and spent 19 days that could have passed like centuries in there, got out, first thing he sees is the body of his best friend and that the biggest and worst curse of all time plagued his adoptive son. Without a moment to breathe. And it's expected of Gojo to just clean all of this stuff up. Immediately.

What's also interesting to note is how much he shows care for his students as well. In the latest chapter Gojo was very brash and crude towards Kenjaku and Sukuna, going as far as to tell Sukuna he ran from Yuji while showing his ass lmao. But when he and Sukuna first clashed and when he said 'you've changed since the last time I saw you Megumi' or something akin to that, Gojo was talking to him in a manner in which you talk to a child, peaceful, kind, comfortable.

It's surreal how good of a character Gojo is. People get hung up on him being so strong but don't realize that is the key component of his character. Like Geto said

The depth that Gojo has as a character is amazing.
After his awakening Gojo was alone at the top once again, and this time without anyone coming close.

So much that he had to turn to the new generation and wishes for them to one day reach him and what his goal basically is.
His goal:
To reform the Jujutsu world and have someone reach him at the top.

Let's first examine what he sees wrong with it, it's not that he's not the one in charge or anything selfish like that

People mistake this statement as Gojo saying that if he kills the higher ups some other people would take their jobs since Gojo always has the option to kill those people as well, to make the world obey him by force BUT if he does that than eventually the system would remain the same, eventually there will again be selfish rulers controlling the world.

See in JJK, Gege has basically tied a philosophy to every character to try and actually explain things in his story and for Gojo he has written a man who doesn't believe in revolution because he doesn't think that is the right and effective way to create permanent change
This idea that you can only save someone if they are prepared to change is exactly what makes Gojo an ideal teacher, he believes in changing his students because he believes the only ones that can be saved(improved) are the ones who are actually willing to do so and are open to the idea and that is what a student is ideally supposed to be
He has shown to actually breakdown and process what he's students are going through to help them improve.

And while the idea of Gojo being a self centered man is not completely baseless
This is from when he's just going through different phases of his life.

But now he actually wants his students to reach him

He is easily one of the best written characters in the verse with a reasonable and complex philosophy and the most interesting part is that he needs this philosophy less than anyone! Typically people resort to these view points of changing the world by teaching because they believe that they are powerless on their own and need others for help but Gojo's character is trying to show that even if you weren't powerless on your own spreading your views into the future generations is the best way to create change.

Gojo's archetype is common, the strongest, the teacher, one at the top, but the execution and characterization of Gojo is simply on a different level to any other such character.

Funny thing about that tho.

Gege iirc stated Gojo is based off a Naruto character, but not Kakashi. It was Tonbo Tobitake. The guy on the far right

Dragonfly in Japanese word is pronounced as "tonbo" and the patterns used on Satoru’s “jacket-style haori” was Dragonflies
