I think that it is quite well explained throughout, but I'll try to keep it short, and yes it's definitely spoilers

So first of all Johan is the result of a secret military experiment where they were trying to create a super soldier by using methods such as handpicking brilliant individuals to create offspring, extensive training and education from a very young age, putting every other experiment kid against each other in FFA death match.. etc. etc.

While this sets the stage for his true background, obviously this isn't all there is to him. You claim that people aren't that weak minded IRL, but I think you're overlooking something very fundamental about people in general. Johan is a very intelligent person, he is very easy to talk to and has confidence, and on top of this is also quite good looking.
Now you can say whatever you want, but when you combine all of this in one person who has questionable intentions, and you have yourself someone who can manipulate more or less anyone to do even things that conflicts with their rationale.

As for how he chooses his targets and why, I can't say for certain, but just take real life cult leaders as an example; They often target people who are in a vulnerable situation like for example people experiencing a loss, drug addiction, rejection or whatever else it may be.
Like you have the ex detective who had the alcholism problem, you have the locksmith who had a criminal past, etc.
I think most of Johan's "victims" are vulnerable people, the kind of people you would expect also in real life to be more susceptible to being manipulated.

And it's not like Johan is everywhere at all times, it may feel like that, but that just goes to show how large his presence is. In a way you can compare it to Dio from JoJo, he's not physically always in the way of the protagonists, but he's always in one way or another tied to most of- if not all the struggles the Jostars face down the line.

So as far as I'm concerned, I don't think there's anything that really feels "unnatural" other than the fact that he's supposed to be an engineered "super human"

@Light D Lamperouge you agree with my breakdown?
Great breakdown Mango.

What makes Johan dangerous is the very fact that people like him exist.

I did some nitpicking tho, I'll spoiler it, just cuz I love talking about Monster and Johan tho :neesama:

I'd stray away from using the term super soldier. The connotation with it is something akin to Captain America, a physically enhanced human.
The experiments were meant to show how to understand and manipulate human behavior on a psychological and ideological level.
Using the term 'super soldier' might lead peeps to misunderstand the grounded horror of what actually happened to Johan.

The way Johan manipulates people is that he finds the cracks that are already there, and using his immense and deep understanding of human nature manipulates them to his desired outcome. Johan presents the twisted truth to push the peeps over the edge. He appears to those victims as a saviour. Allows them the illusion that they are making their own choices and not abiding his will.

In the above post I elaborated on how Johan manipulates those people
