Rayleigh by definition is a YC1 as well. Just because Garling got bodied by Xebec doesn't mean he suddenly gets negged by everyone. Rayleigh gets the same treatment from Xebec or even worse.

I can't imagine any scenario in which Oda would make Ray look as pathetic as Garling was against Xebec.

An immortal Rayleigh likely wouldn't have done much better against Xebec than Garling.

I've never found it reasonable to think of Garling being on par with an Emperor tier combatant at any point prior to or after ascending to Elder status.

Imu is the only superior force.

The future Emperors all having encountered him and his immortals in some form of fashion at God Valley actually does a lot for solidifying their part in the world building.

Oda already did when he made Pissleigh needing protection against fodders. Plus, we saw pissleigh get wrecked bloody from fodders attacks 1-2 chapters ago.

Garling getting folded by Xebec is much better than what happened to pissleigh.
