So first stating the obvious on his abnormality in comparison to normal men: he can't sleep, can consume more than one df without blowing up and he is 38 years old so he was close in age to god valley incident and rocks final journey almost

At the same time look at what the wikipedia tells us about klabautermann:
Despite the positive attributes, there is one omen associated with his presence: no member of a ship blessed by his presence shall ever set eyes on him. He only ever becomes visible to the crew of a doomed ship.
More recently, the Klabautermann is sometimes described as having more sinister attributes, and blamed for things that go wrong on the ship. This incarnation of the Klabautermann is more omen- or goblin-like, prone to play pranks and, eventually, doom the ship and her crew
He was never shown using any type of haki because his will is not his own to manifest through different colors of haki but rather it is rock's will to be king of the world so he inherited two wills from xebec
Will of D. (Although not clear if rocks was really sinister in nature or not as our source of him being evil is WG/sengoku that called people of Ohara evil but this might be rendered through his will of freedom)
Saber of xebec or the will to become king of the world (this is the same with king of pirates as my headcanon is imu was also once a pirate)
The third is his initial chaotic nature as through Kaidou's flashback commente were made about their crew not participating in any kind of teamwork so its most likely they abandoned their captain but why? Rocks is always shown smiling like luffy and his first mate newgate was obviously not someone willing to do dirty work. With that being said opposite to what sengoku said not a single panel was shown of them being hostle towards each other and even kaidou and rinrin were bodies before the incident so something must have infested their minds and the money making scheme went terribly wrong (he did the same thing on moby dick by murdering a single crew member setting in motion a series of events that caused whitebeard to fall in marineford)
My answer is ship's Klabautermann a.k.a teach a.k.a blackbeard was the reason that rocks became corrupted and fell into ruin in god valley but was somehow tricked into thinking teach or the soul of his ship is his last standing companion so before departure to death he gave teach the above mentioned which resulted in him gaining a semi human look (or maybe a df was given to the ship to gain form)
This is why his plans mostly work out, he doesn't dream so everything is based on pure logic without feelings or any sense of honor, justice, frindship, etc
