Oda got the idea to draw a pirate manga from watching Vicky the Viking. The recurring villain there is "Sven the Terrible". A black bearded, tan skinned, pot bellied, kidnapping, sceming viking. Reminds you of someone?

Teach is Luffy's biggest pirate enemy. He has been build up for a thousand chapters. No coincidence that he resembles the eternal villain of Vicky the Viking. It is time for him to strike, now that the Strawhats are on the viking island. Sven attacked Vicky's village, in search of someone who never lies, who he needs to collect a great treasure. Blackbeard wants the One Piece. Luffy and Shanks have rubbings, Saul could be burn-scar-man. Blackbeard Pirates will arrive, but Strawhats won't fight them yet. Redhair Pirates will.

not my point. it isn't just about any cartoon character. oda said vicky the viking was his original inspiratiaon for one piece, and that blackbearded fatty is the main antagonist of the show.
