There wasn't much to add, in the Colosseum he just destroyed his armor piece. Burgess was totally fine after their first clash. The anime isn't canon so it shouldn't make any difference

The scenario you are depicting doesn't seem likely. Here is the timeline of events:



Point 3 covers a much longer time span than you are making it seems. And even if it didn't, the fight lasted at the very least 4 minutes + the finale of the Doffy vs Luffy fight. That's a lot of time in the OP world, people go down in a single hit when things gets serious. Burgess is incredibly sturdy and managed to hold his own against a YC1+ character.

I refuse to consider the idea Sabo stood there doing nothing while civilians were in mortal danger, Sabo was in a hurry

Burgess clashed with Sabo in the Colosseum and tanked multiple named attacks from Mera Mera Sabo. Sabo is an ACoA and Logia user, probably the strongest commander level character there was before Zoro and Sanji joined the group, and yet he couldn't put him down in less than 10-ish minutes. Remarkable feats

With the Riki Riki no Mi he is tiers above that

lol "clashed" thats a loose term, Sabo negated his attack literally....

& no he didnt "tank multiple" named attacks from Sabo he had one that hit him from Sabo that sent him flying a far distance... then a second one while crawling on the floor & getting negged... good try, do you actually read the manga or are you an anime only watcher?
