I know you like to paint with a broad brush, but it’s possible to not be a Zoro fanboy AND also have a functioning brain at the same time...say, if you read the manga and notice that in all his truncated appearances, Apoo never uses a sword or anything resembling one

No. He doesn’t use a sword. Cutting isn’t enough to be classified as swordsmanship. Characters with claws can cut you, that doesn’t make them swordsmen. Even something mundane like a piece of paper can cut you, but you aren’t about to call a lawyer a swordsman.
