Can / will / have you sacrifice your comfortable life to pursue something you want so badly?

For example:

Your friends / community / neighbourhood / norm,

Totally hate or heavily disagree with:

your activity, or career choices, some girl or boy you really like, concept of settling down or marriage, or some place you want to move to, or whatever.

---

Will / can / have you ignore the norm or your community, will you accept being humiliated or mocked, just to pursue what you really want?

- what is it?

- if yes/no, why?

- if no, why? will you regret it? What are the possible consequences?

- if yes, what are your reasons? What are the possible consequences?

- do you have any personal real life experience regarding this? Something you really want no matter what? Or something you have achieved by sacrificing something though its not easy?

I wouldn't care about what people think. I mean why?
It's not their life, they shouldn't think they can impose their expectations on others.

I generally don't care about what people think so frankly, I never even asked myself that question in the first place.

I will, coming to PhD to USA starting from Fall 22. I am leaving my family and friends behind. However, I want it because I want to make significant contribution to international academia on Electrical Engineering, especially RF circuit design. Additionally, I will be working with one of the pioneering professors in this area, so I will gain much experience and knowledge near him.

So either do what they say and be miserable, or pursue happiness?

If you fail, they'd rub in your face and call you a stubborn failure. If you succeeded, they turn a 180 and claim they'd always knew, along with asking for money.

Answer's obvious
