Speculations Can winged races hide their wings?

On two occasions now individuals have suddenly had or not had wings when they previously had or did not have wings.

The first taking place in Marineford, Lafitte in one panel suddenly grew a large pair of white wings but no other part of his body changed, not even his vivre card gave any insight merely saying “it may be a devil fruit, may be something else.”

The second taking place here in Wano with Tenguyama. Tenguyama has had large glorious white wings throughout all of Wano, however, now that he’s in the flower capital, he no longer has them out.

Did Oda merely mess up with Tenguyama? Or can the winged races like Tenguyama and Urouge, retract and unfurl their wings upon their own command.

Laffite have a Devil fruit and Tenguyama use the wing as part of the Tengu costume, but probably he is just Sukiyaki.

Both are unconfirmed and Tengu being sukiyaki doesn’t make much sense when we know Tenguyamas related to hitetsu and the forger of Kitetsu III

About Tengu and Sukiyaki, yes its not confirmed, but a lot of indications of them being the same person. Both having the same Voice actor, Tengu age being corrected to more than 80 in the last Vivre Card to make him older than Oden, Oda putting a random info on Tengu being a Kokeshi doll collector and them making Brook find a room with a heavy door full of those same dolls inside the Shogun castle, where Orochi could have had Sukiyaki held prisoner, Tengu being a character that know a lot about Oden, Scabbards and that they would return, but not being present in the Oden FB.

1. Lafittes fruit is not mentioned in the Vivre card. It just says his wings may be a devil fruit power but it may be something else. The vivre card “hinting” that it’s a DF power was just Arturs interpretation.

2. If it was sukiyaki, that just leaves so many more weird questions. Why didn’t he give a shit about momo? The only child Tenguyama seemed to care about was Tama. Why didn’t he go to onigashima, why was it never hinted that Sukiyaki is a master sword smith? If the kitetsu were made by the Kozuki clan, why did Oden not use any of them knowing that Tenguyama had the Nidai?

Tenguyama was probably just a swordsmith of the shogun. Him being Sukiyaki doesn’t make much sense or add anything narratively…

Sukiyaki was introduced with wings, but after we saw him again with Toko, he dont have wings anymore.

Hitetsu is interesting because he's the only character in Wano in the present that didn't appear in Oden's flashback and yet he's like one of the most important Wano characters at the moment. The Scabbards as well as Momo know him too.

I just always figured he was like the mimawarigumi and Oniwabanshu. People who worked for the Shogun but since the majority of the flashback didn’t take place in the flower capital there was no real reason to show him.

We’ve seen them range heavily in size between Urouge and Skypeians/Shandorans but I don’t know if we’ve seen them completely retract

Yeah Lafitte, that's the one I was alluding to I guess.

I imagine there's a good chance this pattern will be the same with the Lunarians assuming Lafitte isn't one in the first place.
