Theory Captain Rock D Xebec and the Origin of the Davy Back fight

#1
In this Theory I’m going to explain the Origin of the Davy back fight and reveal the history of Captain Rocks D Xebec and his crew and some other unknown connections in the story Rocks.

In the story so far, the Davy back fight has been stated to originate from the “Pirate Island”

As we all could’ve guessed, this “Pirate Island” is Blackbeard’s Pirate Island, Fullalead/Beehive

Absalom/Katarina Devon even calls it “A Paradise” later in that chapter

Now that we know WHERE the Davy back fight was created. We need to know HOW it was created.

Let’s first go over what the Davy back fight is. It’s basically a contest between two pirate crews in which the winner gets to take a crew mate from the opposing pirate crew.

Now from here now we can piece together how it was formed. The simplest answer is, It was formed when Certain pirates got together to find a way to form a stronger pirate crew by getting crew mates from another pirate crew.

And guess what, This has actually happened before. And it has happened on Beehive/Fullalead

The Rocks Pirates were formed by already established pirates (Since we know for sure Big mom was a Pirate since she was a toddler) coming together to somehow combine crewmates under one man.

The Specific ”games” in this first Davy Back fight of course weren’t the goofy ones we’ve seen before but the premise of their being a way for One pirate crew to emerge with the strongest members of every other pirate crew is there.

This is also supported by the fact that the members never actually liked each other as stated so they weren’t together over shared camaraderie or even shared goals of any kind really since we know each of their goals already and they do not align.

And extra layer to this can come from why would any other pirate even decades later follow the arbitrary rules of the Davy back fight. Like why did all the crews Foxy scammed just go along with this tradition yet as pirates they should have the mentality to just refuse even if they lose. The simplest answer is, it’s because the LITERAL STRONGEST CREW did it. Like of course the Rocks crew was kept in check probably by Rocks himself being stronger than everyone else, but the tradition carries on that the literal strongest of the strong followed these kind of Arbitrary rules so why wouldn’t everyone else. Kind of like how everyone just wants to find go to the grandline because the Pirate King did.

Now we Know where the Davy back fight was formed, who formed them and why they were formed. So all that’s left is why it’s called “Davy back” to begin with.

The simplest answer is the name “Davy” came from the first time it happened. Either the place it happened first, or the time of year, or the FIRST PERSON WHO WON is source of the name.

As you can guess, I believe it’s the First person who won who is responsible for the name. There’s two Options here. ”Davy” could refer to Rocks himself OR to Rocks’ ship on which everyone sailed. Kind of like the crew sailed on the “back“ of Davy, Rocks’ ship hence “Davy back”

But of course we already know Rocks’ ship isn’t called ”Davy”. In fact we’ve already seen Rock’s ship before this.

See the similarities? It’s basically the same ship with a few design tweaks here and there but it’s all the same basic type of ship and figurehead and Size and masts with just the big “Flying Dutchman” obscured by The Black sail with “Rocks” on it. It’s basically close enough to be a quick redesign.

Of course though, there’s a lot of Lore surrounding this ship already which shouldn’t make it Rocks ship but remember Papagu says all that stuff Brook says is easily an exaggeration

In fact Vander Decken IX’s story has holes since the original Vander Decken Ran Mad and came from the surface to Fishman island looking for the Mermaid Princess who was Poseidon but died By the ”Wrath of God”.

This means Vander Decken was human wasn’t he? Since he came from the surface to Fishman island. Why is his descendant a Fishman then? In fact, he was Mad too, and was quickly struck down by whatever the “Wrath of God” is so when did he manage to mate with a Fishman to get descendants? While he was mad? While he was running from the “wrath of God”? While he was searching for Poseidon?

The few things that are in fact True are “Vander Decken” existed since someone brought this ship to the ocean floor and this person KNEW that there was an ancient weapon in Fishman island and it was a mermaid princess.

The simplest answer to this is Vander Decken IX is lying. There was an Original “Vander Decken” who came to the sea floor mumbling about a mermaid Princess and told a Fishman before probably dying from injury or something. This Original “Vander Decken” was the last member of the Rocks crew who didn’t abandon ship after the God Valley incident when the “Wrath of God”(Celestial dragons) came down on them and instead took the Rocks flag ship to the bottom of the ocean to get an ancient weapon to kill the Celestials Since Sengoku already said Rocks knew “Taboo subjects” of the world and Ancient weapons are one of them. The Fishman this “Vander Decken” told ended up making up his own mythos of being this man’s descendant and taking his ship and continuing the search for Poseidon.

Now that I’ve gone on this tangent to explain the Ship of the Rocks pirates, we can go back to what ”Davy” is. If “Davy” isn’t the Ship of the Rocks pirates, then it can only be, THE NAME OF THE ROCKS CAPTAIN. His name being, Rocks Davy Xebec. The Initial D stands for “Davy”.

This is basically a play on the meaning of ”Davy Jones” who in real life is described as the “Devil of the sea” similar to how the ”D’s” are “God’s natural enemies” i.e. the Devil. And the most obvious connection is, Davy Jones’ ship is called THE FLYING DUTCHMAN. Which I’ve just described is basically Rocks’ ship that sunk in Fishman island with the last member of Rocks trying to obtain an ancient weapon to kill the celestial dragons.

Thank you for Reading.

TL;DR:
Rocks Davy Xebec(as in the Initial D is Davy) went to the pirate Island Beehive/Fullalead and met with a number of Upstart pirates and won a competition amongst them to get whichever one of them as part of his crew. He picked the strongest and formed the strongest crew full off unruly people only falling in line by his strength. This entire scenario became legendary in the pirate world and even though the government covered it up, it turned into a pirate game called the Davy back fight where pirates would honor the greatest pirate crew by following in their lead to go under the winning pirate crews flag no matter what.

The last member on the Rocks crew from the God valley incident who didn’t abandon ship basically went to the bottom of the ocean, on the Rocks crew flash ship The Flying Dutchman, to get Poseidon from Fishman island in order to kill the Celestial dragons and told some Fishman his goal but perished Soon after before completing it. This man came to be known as ”Vander Decken” in Fishman island but whether that’s his real name or not Remains to be seen. The Fishman who learned of this made up stories about him being a descendant of this man and exaggerated the story to mythic proportions and took his ship and came to be known as Vander Decken IX.

The Initial D being ”Davy” is a reference to “Davy Jones” whose ship is the Flying Dutchman in real life folklore and is called the “Devil of the sea” similar to how the D clan are the ”Natural enemies of God” i.e ”Devils”

I'm sorry to have to do this, but Shirahoshi was only born 16 years ago.

Poiseidon had not existed for 800 years until Shirahoshi was born.

I liked the first part very much, it makes completely sense and that is probably how the Rocks were born, kudos to you and kudos to Oda too.

Yet the second is a bit too forced. Also in the "Davy back fight" the Davy imo simply refers to Davy Jones, so a character that is a legend of our world and not (at least yet) a character in the manga.

But Joyboy knew the mermaid princess remember... As in there lived a mermaid princess who was Poseidon hundreds of years ago when Joyboy was alive... And also, VAnder decken clearly knew about a mermaid proncess before shirahoshi was born

Thismakes lot of sense it connects the plot with van der decken ship with same skull head appears on rocks.

Adding to this rocks probably wanted to rule the world and knew that collecting the important prizes were key to put down WG.
