fighting-wise and for most things? yes... the sea storm alone couldn't have destroyed the entire fleet, shiki doesn't have utterly stupid crewmates and navigators to the point of half a fleet dying to a storm (or he wouldn't be famous to the point of sengoku in person being on his trail), roger's crew definitely busted up a lot of ships.

in fact, sengoku literally declared the edd war battle as a roger win.

shiki didn't object, he just said: "so what?!", shiki always respected roger's strength and raided marineford in rage cuz of that fact.

… dude it’s literally written in canon by the narrator and the world the Edd war is a draw because Roger escaped while a freak storm destroyed half of Shikis fleet.

The story literally tells us all this. Hell it even said if the storm didn’t save him Roger and his ship would’ve lost

in canon also, the edd war battle is roger's victory (by sengoku).

if this is all written by the same person, is one thing wrong and the other right? half a fleet of someone as strong and famous as shiki, and in the new world, dying to a storm is absolutely unbelievable now that we know the power of roger's crew, one good kamusari could destroy multiple ships! not to mention gaban's flying slashes that could wreck aurust castle and he's an old man, then let's not talk about rayleigh and the rest.

Please quote Sengoku saying the Edd war was victory for Roger…

And i don’t really care what you think. I’m just saying what’s canon

that's the thing, it's a mis-translation in english for many releases of the chapter 0 and a lot of people do not know about it.

in japanese (which you can hear in the animated episode): omae to no shobo nara yatsu no kachi nigeda

that means: in your (edd war) bout with him, he came out victorious and fled.

this translation actually got it right (minus the fleeing thing because of the storm), you can check the raws of chapter zero and someone who knows some japanese.

Dude that’s the anime, not the manga. The manga which explicitly states the battle ended in a draw.

:seriously:

I think it's looking like:

Roger VS Rocks
Garp VS Whitebeard
Rayleigh VS Garling

We know Gaban fought Sommers at some point, but I never got the impression he was the only opponent Gaban had.

It should also be taken into account some mfers will get hypetooled.

I suspect Big Mom wasted no time in chasing after the Devil Fruit, and I think she did it because she had reason to believe Rocks' luck was running out - whether she knew why or not.

Hi guys sorry for butting into your discussion. But, I just followed a long debate on this same topic. It was clearly stated that the battle ended in a draw. Because both main ships survived the stormy weather, Rogers and Shikis. The narrator also used the word draw in the bottom left corner.

roger's ship scoring a draw against a 5000-man fleet of ships including shiki himself, makes sengoku's phrase of roger being victorious then fled even more believable considering that half the fleet was destroyed, some by roger's crew and some by the storm.

All by the storm. The manga says if the storm didn’t appear Roger’s ship would’ve been completely destroyed.

then i will keep it at this sole thing... if only the storm destroyed half the fleet, shiki would never idolize roger's power to the point of invading marineford by his lonesome out of rage then literally state his admiration of his strength.

I know what you are referring to. The narrator declared their battle a draw. The talk with Sengoku afterward, when Shiki invaded Marineford, was only Sengoku's opinion. There were different types of translations out there people used over the years. For example :

1.

2.

3.

Now, I forgot which translation was the most accurate, but.

The fact is, they never really fought each other during edwar(atleast we didn't see arm to arm combat), only fired shots with their ships before the storm ended it. Of course, you could argue now what if they fought? But that would be a classic power scaling debate. Spontaneously, I would also say Roger would take this home, since he also had Rayleigh and Gaban on board. But I am not really a power debater.

lol these all dont even refer to edd war.

Oh? Interesting. You mean this is referring to a battle they had which we never got to see? That would even make more sense, the way Sengoku phrases it. I mean Eddwar was never really a battle in my opinion.

Shiki had already stated that they had multiple conversations before. They certainly clashed before then. Now that I think about it, Roger and Shiki are both giving me Rocks and Harald vibes a little lol, one trying to win the other over and gets denied every time.

What a funny dejavu.
