I don't really care. It's immoral either way.
Him growing up in a place where it's normalized doesn't mean he can't realize it's gross. Japan isn't the only place on Earth and I'm sure he's been outside the country several times throughout his life.
He made a conscious choice to portray a 16 year old in that lighting multiple times. It is what it is.
