He was called "Accursed Prince" when he was born. So it is not his own actions that gave him the dark reputation initially. Why then was he considered cursed? Superstition?

Did he become wicked due to a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Oda made Estrid a superstitious nut for a reason. She's giving me Madame Shyarly vibes with her prophecy which ofc we know will come true but in a different way as the characters expected.
And about Loki and his relation to the other citizens: do they seriously expect a kid who was abandoned by his own mom and called cursed his entire childhood to turn out nice and amicable and friendly with everyone? It's similar to Ace being called evil and his right to existence called in to question by random people only because of who his father was. People really be making their own enemies.
