So if we look at power ups Luffy has gained post-skip, they follow a pretty clear pattern. First, in WCI, Luffy gained advanced observation haki, future sight. Now in Want kuni, Luffy gained advanced armament haki, the ability to manipulate the flow of haki. But is this power really enough? For Luffy to take on someone like Kaido or big mom? likely not
No, Luffy will need to surpass his limits and become even stronger if he wants to have a chance at beating them. This means that Luffy needs to another power up on top of ACoA and FS. Given the trend, that power will most likely be ACoC, advanced CoC.
Enter shanks.
Shanks, the guy portrayed to be the master of CoC, surely has this power. I believe it is very likely that he will make an appearance in wano and help Luffy beat kaido. Why?
- Shanks has a personal stake in the fight. Kaido killed Oden, Oden was Shanks's nakama aboard the Roger pirates. Shanks hates people who kill his friends. If Luffy is going after kaido, it makes no sense for Shanks to just watch from the sidelines. Especially when the Rox pirate alliance threatens his own position as emperor
- it is out of shanks's character for him to sit aside. Shanks wants Luffy to be pirate king, shanks supports luffy and wants him to have his own journey and face his own obstacles. However Shanks does not want Luffy to die. As of now, the Rox pirates have effectively reemerged. It is insane for Luffy or the alliance to beat 2 Yonkos at once without any outside help. This is not to mention Blackbeard and the marines who could easily get involved. All of which leads to a clusterfuck that resembles that of marine ford.
so what could happen? Well I see Shanks coming in and saving Luffy and co. I don't think he will directly fight in the final clash against kaido, but will save the SHs from being killed by big mom some time before then. In the final clash, Shanks will ward off other outsiders from interfering in wano. Likely Blackbeard or the marines. However I do think that Shanks and the SHs will interact and that this interaction will play a big role in Luffy's victory over kaido.
