Yeah, but Whitebeard had great Haki and a quake devil fruit, while Roger didn't have quakes at his disposal is what I was saying.

Since 2019 I speculated here that Roger had probably no devil fruit for a hype reason, I'm glad I was proven right

Here is my theory. While we can view that WB had an advantage of having devil fruit, maybe Roger never gave WB chance to use his DF. WB usually needs to punch, swing or touch his opponents to make major damage (I don't think I have seen him use his weapon to make quakes). So when WB tries to use his DF, Roger strikes him before he can make quakes. So WB needs to resort to Haki fight instead.

It’s clear that Oda treats devil fruits as window-dressing when it suits him.

The same was even apparent in Luffy’s fight with Kaido where any boosts from the dragon fruit + a weapon were clashing equally with just base Luffy using the same CoC coating.
