Chapter Discussion Crocodile vs Katakuri character-wise

Croc is best written villain in shonen jump history at least for me. He's evil and his motivation is a pure maniac. No sad flashback so far, he has no good motivation that done in bad way. He's psychotic as hell.

Crocodile's pirate badassery is probably unmatched, not even BB can compete

What croc did :
- Built an assassin organisation by his own.
- a mastermind of a civil war in a country and manipulating the civilian by killing pirates that passes by and thus being a hero.
- manage to hide his intention of finding pluton under the nose of the world government for a long time.
- even his underlings didn't know who their boss was.
- not even doffy is close to him villain wise, since doffy has a huge advantage by being related to the celestial dragon.

Katakuri :
- being a clairvoyant for an immediate future.
- being mama's favorite boy.
- living with his mom since almost forever.
- hiding to eat doughnuts.

Katakuri is a 48 year old man-boy who still lives with his mother

Too afraid to leave and clings to an old childhood identity that serves him or anyone else no longer. Needs a 19 year old boy to man him up. To waste CoC on such a character when there is Vergo...

You read every shonen jump manga?

Besides power level maybe, Croc as a character is much more credible and consistent with the context of the world.

Mingo is far more complex. Crocodile is generally liked cause he's badass, but still a generic villain.

Katakuri is a great character for the limited amount of build-up he received, and being showcased to go through his own character arc within the 15ish chapters him and Luffy fought. It was a bold move on Oda's part to take what would be an otherwise secondary villain in any other other arc, and be able to successfully turn him into the biggest threat to Luffy, in an arc where there is a Yonko. It worked though, and his character elevated dramatically because of it.

Crocodile on the other hand had way more build-up, and was much more fleshed out from the beginning. He's arguably one of the best written villain in the series.
