DCEU: Lanterns (HBO Max)

I just saw this and I'm gonna say, we were way too hard on the Ryan Reynolds one lol.

What is this? If it wasn't for Hal randomly flying and shooting his ring I wouldn't even know it's a superhero show much less GL.

I'm not the biggest GL fan so I gotta ask, is there some nuance I'm missing here?
