Questions & Mysteries Devil Fruit - Science or Fantasy

Right now not sure it will satisfy everyone but I'm sure it will make more sense during a Void century flashbacks......
I think there are two possibilities
1) We know the Ancient Kingdom was really damn advanced even more than Vegapunk! They likely had the free energy and what not, so maybe the people started to become even greedier and desire much much more ( which could explain why the mother sea cursed them ) all this pre Void century
2) Scenario 2 whatever happened during the Void century was so brutal that everyone started to strongly desire ways to fight / run away from it and that's how they were born and maybe they are also anither way for people to pass on their will and hope for a better future so maybe they all serve the same purpose :O
I personally like it it fits well in the story and opens up to ways to fit in different scenarios

Of course i prefer it to be fantasy. But even fantasy should also at least reveal the origin on-panel in some climactic moments, instead of just relying on Vegapunk's exposition. Imo there should be the place of origin, for all the Devil Fruit.
Maybe a fantasy tree or, some titanic otherworldly floating altar or something. The place that receives all the wishes from the entire world,
...with an ultimate artifact that realize those wishes. So, is this One Piece?
