See, the problem is, Harald went to the Reverie and he saw the World Nobles wanting to enslave him or torture him to death.

Obviously he was long dead since the last Reverie where Shirahoshi was almost enslaved by Charlos, but an individual king is as powerful as a peasant to the whims of a World Noble.

From Herald's perspective, he wanna the remove the violent past of the Ancient Giants. That baggage is too strong and he don't want future giants to keep paying for sins of the past or living up to the warrior hype.

He don't like the Giants are muhh violent warrior stereotypes and want them to become like a bunch of normies.

No matter how awful the WGs are, they have the mechanism to make Giants to fully normies again like what Herald just said.

Xebec is right that WG mainly want Elbaf for their military might but Xebec himself want the giants to join for their military might and majority of WG military are humans so Herald couldn't care less

Xebec want to reinforce the "harmful" stereotypes that Herald spent so much time fighting against. Naturally they clashed but it seems like there was no killing intent from Herald

Plus, joining Xebec's cause is doomed from the start anyways

So did Herald do right thing or not?
A BIG FAT NO..
he knew what happened in past 1000 years between giants and the world. the elders talk to him about galley-ra, and other elbaf legend including nika and liberation things. and he know how corrupt is world government is and even rocks told him about davy clan.

if he want peace and dont want to join rocks, it is still okay,
and he was devastated about rocks's death is understandable
BUT his action after that.. going to mary geoise and prostit*t* himself and his nation?? it is disgusting

Ida's pussy destroyed him mentally.
she ate 1 of his ball.

As a king he was doing the right thing. Even if you want to overthrow the WG you still cannot ally yourself with Rocks cause then your whole effort for making Elbaf a nation in the global fold would not happen. Elbaf has/had very bad reputation (Harald himself had) then you add that Elbaf has allied with Rocks (most notorious and evil pirate in the public eye).
he can do so in secret look at vivi and luffy

Yep.
In this very chapter you see people talking about giants past .
People often don't separate the reader view from the characters view .
Teaming up with the world worst criminal would have made things 100 times worst for them in long run in the OP world eyes.
harald hypocrisy is at maximum level..
he said he doesnt care about appearance anymore before he break his horn, but the motivation of his action is actually the opposite..
he does CARE about appearance, and in fact it seems it is actually his top priority

all he did is show the world he is submissive king / non violent to the world

Harland learned the wrong lessons from Ida’s bravery and tried to take shortcuts to peace through appeasement of evil.

Being generous, he did what he thought was right for reasons he thought were just. I personally don’t buy the just part.

I think Harland was fundamentally ignorant and cowardly, not misguided. I posit he knows it himself, hence his genuine heartbreak over Rocks - not that I buy Oda actually did the work to establish this deep kinship properly.

Harald made the giants soft; this wasn't the way to go about it.

Hell no. Yes, the WG can never be trusted. But he's betraying his entire heritage.

He can try to suit & tie it all he wants, he's still a Giant. Their warrior mindset shows in every facet of their life.
He couldve, idk, arrested that thug Giant. Instead he beat him past unconsciousness, destroying part of that town
He could've sawed off his horns & presented them formally. Instead, he ripped them off & presented them through blood-stained vision

Also, it's very premature to seek peace the world over when there's work to be done in his own country. Maybe work on the prejudice Ida faced from her own race.

Harald seems a very weak character - has no issue with bigamy because old giants said so, doesn't defend his son against the evils of elbaph traditions, subjugated himself to the organisation which murdered his friend and their entire family simply for existing. I can understand if Xebec was executed for being a pirate, but to target his family and make a spectacle of it, and then you bend the knee to the same entity who orchestrated it.

Because many random Giants can't control themselves from pillaging Humans towns.

It's a bad PR and he needs to do counter PR which is what he did.

He made a mistake so many otherwise intelligent and empathic people make these days - trying to get on good terms with the bully by succumbing to them and playing by their rules.

Only problem - the bully gives a flying fuck about that. If you give them the little finger, they will take the whole arm.

He knows WG is a bully yet he also realizes that only them have the mechanism to make Elbaf and Giants more integrated in the world.

What is your solution? Continuing isolation and keep pillaging neighboring countries for resources?

Reality is you have no choice but to engage with an established authority no matter how wicked it is.

Elbaf had famine and outside help was crucial.
