i always figured that it's a special application of advanced coc where you block out the CoO specifically. so really different from what Shanks did to Aramaki, but who knows.

I'm sure Aramaki wasn't in a position where he could use CoO

According to what Oda mentioned in the 4 Billion volume, Shanks has the ability to unsettle his opponents' breathing, quite possibly with his Haki, in a way that they cannot see the future at all. But yeah it can be a special application. The way I took it , its simply shanks COC is overwhelming.

i believe it will be the first "special" advcoc power we get to see that only a few characters like Shanks, Imu, Roger and Luffy will have.

yet he somehow got caught offguard and eaten by the biggest Gorosei. You can see that Nika was fighting against Saturn while he noticed Ju Peter burrowing. So he should be on guard and ready, but he got devoured and had to be saved by Dorry and Broggy.

we know that the Gorosei are extremely powerful haki users, and if Topman has it, it wouldn't be crazy to presume that the other 4 have it as well:

So it's totally possible that powerful haki user Ju Peter used observation killing coc to disable future sight user Nika's CoO for his attack.

Maybe he taught his nephew Shanks how to use it

As you can see in the panels above, he got distracted by Woro's base CoA attack.
Yes, Woro kills observation simply with CoA

Oda doesn't even think that far.
It happened due to plot.
That's why obs haki is pretty BS it only kicks in and out as per plot.
Gorosei "top tier haki" can't even sense Sabo's presence who isn't even far from them.

Unless you're Katakuri or someone who's notorious for their obs haki it doesn't really matter.
An attack or attempt that won't do anything serious or a forced plot will connect irrespective of COo existence.

What I understand about Shanks being considered a "future observation assassin" is that he deals with it not by using another type of Haki to "kill observation Haki", but rather he possesses a fighting style that is capable of doing so, such as unpredictability or his high speed.

Kaido's Shuron Hakke is basically that.

It is unfortunate that Oda had created such a cool and nuanced ability such as Future Sight, yet lacks the consistency to write characters utilizing it when they should be.

There's no reason Yonko Luffy couldn't have used FS to dodge what is basically a Sea King coming from underground, other than that Ju Peter used FS which we have no real indication he is capable of using

I hope this shows how powerful the Gorosei are. There's just only a slim chance Saturn might be defeated but even that isn't bad considering Saturn is the weakest Gorosei member.
