Oden is the Hercule of One Piece and like Big Mon and Kaido he is a freak of nature since his childhood.

Big Mom=> a very strong body

Kaido => An Oni

Oden => a very strong haki.

Zoro is more like Kratos.

So either Enma didnt test Oden as hard as Zoro and force him to use coc sooner or Oden wasnt good enough to unlock coc untill he was beyond 25.

The last comment is a bit of a grasp.
Granted, it's ryuma's body, but not ryuma's spirit. And we've seen what only the spirit can do, just look at penguin Sanji or Hitler Zoro.

I think Zoro could weild Shusui without major problems because it's a "normal" sword by One Piece standards, and Enma is the first sword that we've shown having such an effect.

Agree that's the whole problem. Enma is the only known sword to be this weird and that's the only explanation I can find why.

Maybe but I don't think mastering Enma when Oden got it and current Enma is the same.

Oden basically got it as a brand new sword, no one had ever used it before and it grew with him.

I think Zoro had more trouble than Oden because he had to make Enma accept him as his new wielder which was difficult because :
1- Enma had already gotten used to prime Oden. So it had a very high standard.
2- It wasn't meant to be Zoro's sword, Oden entrusted the sword to be Hiyori's. Which is why it reacted to hearing her music and started lashing out against Zoro whereas before he had it under control just fine.

This really makes me think how strong he really was. I mean, this is kind like Big Mom, but from his clash with Whitebeard and Roger, he seemed inferior.

Kaido also defeated him before his prime, with no Hybrid form. We can say that they might had a battle before Kaido defeated, who knows.

IMO Oden was Admiral tier overall but with AP that could be top top top.

Kaido was in prime already. He was also 39.
Although he didn't reach his full peak yet unlike Oden
Oda didnt wanna reveal kaido abilities that's why we didnt have drunk or hybrid kaido vs oden

My explanation for it is Enma's very nature.

Enma was gifted to Oden, and Oden carried it since he was a kid. Since Enma wasn't used to anyone else, it could only suck whatever it could from kid Oden and was satisfied by it.

As Oden grew stronger, Enma sucked out as much haki from Oden as Oden could supply it. Meaning, at any given timeframe, the amount of haki that it expects from anyone wielding it, would be the haki that the Oden of that timeframe was supplying it.

Ultimately, what Enma got used to, was peak Oden tier armament and conqueror's haki.
To be noted is that Oden didn't even know about advanced conqueror's haki until Roger/WB clash happened, meaning that the Enma of timeframes prior to that also never tasted conqueror's haki........and was still tamed by Oden. Giving credence to my theory, since conqueror's haki is a requirement to tame current Enma, but that clearly wasn't the case in the past.

Enma by it's nature is a greedy sword, hungry for haki.
Enma at the current timeframe could no longer be satisfied by any less haki than what peak Oden could supply it. Simply because it got used to this level of haki.

So the Enma that we are familiar with, attempts to suck out Oden level armament and conqueror's haki. Which was why even someone strong like Scabbards couldn't use it.

Zoro finally truly tamed Enma in chapter 1033.
There he says "So Oden was giving you this much haki easily", awakens advanced conqueror's haki, and tames Enma.

This I take as narrative proof for my theory.
Enma wants prime Oden level haki, it won't be tamed by anyone incapable of supplying it with that much haki.

Basically Zoro has to either equal Oden or surpass him to master the sword as expected.

It also explain why Oden never achieved something like koh, he had it easier with Enma.

According to recent sbs Enma was gifted to oden when he was 4 years old. Did Oden only took 1 day? 1 month? or a year to master Enma and by the time he was 5 he is already adept to it.

he probably never had problem with enma because it was made for him also enma probably was used to prime odens haki so it won't accept any weaker haki
