Speculations Did Shanks declare war on Luffy by attacking Barto?

Barto took Luffy’s flag. He is Luffy’s nakama. Shanks attacked him. Much as Shanks has a reputation he needs to maintain, so does Luffy.

Luffy has fishman island and wano under his control. If he lets Shanks off the hook for attacking his man, then wouldn’t that diminish the weight of his flag that others depend on?

The marines don’t usually attack members of a yonko crew because doing so can start a war. Yet Shanks did this very thing. Does this mean Shanks is starting a war with the SHs?

While Luffy will likely be unaware of world events while in Elbaf, I see the SHGF members taking reprisals against the RHP for the attack on Barto. While none of them can stand up to the full power of the main crew, they can easily crush the RHP allied crews, which were already established to be weak.

All of this could force a confrontation between Shanks and Luffy. Even if Luffy doesn’t actually defeat Shanks in battle, there’s a good chance they meet again as fierce rivals.

Yup, that sounds legit, Shanks could had left Barto go away with no injuries or talk with Luffy about consequences, yet he just destroyed them.

Seems Oda did it again, a clear and nice reason for their fight.

Bartolomeo started it, but he's Luffy's friend and supposedly the idea that Roger, Shanks and Luffy live by is if you harm their friends you're for trouble. Luffy should stand by that, Bartolomeo screwed up, but Shanks wrecked him, the same way the Red Haired Pirates can't afford to let rookies and upstarts walk all over them for the sake of their weaker allies, Luffy can't just stand by and let it slide when one of his allies gets destroyed. Luffy wanted to prove to Shanks that he can become a great pirate, now it's time to prove it.

It's pathetic but luffy probably won't consider it an act of war against them.
Unlike Zoro (as well as Robin and Brook) I think.
Especially Zoro would consider it as a weakness and he'll refuse to accept it.

We've been reminded of how Zoro thinks a yonko should act just recently, btw. Maybe that was kind of a foreshadow of upcoming conflict.

Depends on his next move.

Perhaps blowing up their ship sends a strong enough message.

Perhaps Shanks intends on attacking more of his allies to prove the point, in which case, yeah it's war.

You would have a point if Shanks really tried to Kill Luffy but it's clear they only aimed for barto

No one will think you are a coward for not avenging someone of your fleet because he made a mistake
