Character Discussion Did Smoker leave the Marines?

#1
Last time we saw him, he and Tashigi were on their way to Egghead

We saw Tashigi at the start of the arc and again this chapter, but we haven't seen Smoker even once. He wasn't shown preparing to attack Egghead with the other Marines either.

Did the guy leave the Marines? What's been going on with him?

Imo, he's going to show up and help Luffy's side, and its why hes not with Tashigi. Then that's going to lead them to Fullalead to deal with the SWORD/Garp/BBP conflict.

The Sword members are absolutely being introduced as future allies for the endgame, and the Marines that will probably turn on the WG as it currently is.

I still have some personal stock that he may be the crews last member.

Yeah I defintiely get the impression that Smoker's gonna be an ally going forward

Nah he's still a Marine and Oda will showcase him as the first confirmed awakened logia.
So definitely still a Marine, but I wonder if thats why Sword was created by Oda and why he has Aokiji and had Drake infiltrate Yonko crews.

Not that Aokiji is Sword (seems he went a level further and is no longer a Marine), but Smoker looks up to Aokiji and may choose the next best thing, becoming a Sword member and using that status to "ally" with Luffy's crew through the endgame, like Drake did with Kaido.

I always found it peculiar that he hasnt been shown with Tashigi, and if he's not on Fullalead, it truly makes me feel we are about to see where his allegiance lies on Egghead.

What's weird is that Aokiji seemed shocked that Koby is a member of Sword. Maybe he really is on the outside looking in.

Based off what Aokiji said, how would you feel if Smoker actually became a pirate or revo instead of joining Sword?

I'd honestly be a bit torn, but like Aokiji, he might see there's alternative ways of accomplishing a goal rather than staying with the Navy and WG.

Lol, why would Smoker leaves the marines?
Plenty of reasons, though it doesnt mean itll happen:

1. He has increasingly witnessed the successes of Luffy where justice has complete failed, those being Alabasta, Punk Hazard and Dressrosa.

2. Marineford has shown him that Marines entirely in many cases have gone too far. He has like 2 pages on it towards the end of the war.

3. He has consistently been portrayed as rebellious towards the higher ups.

4. Aokiji did exactly that as an Admiral, and he was told by the end of PH that there are "other ways to pursue justice".

Think its Impossible that Oda wont show him this arc.

Either he is with Garp and Oda is just saving him for a epic entrance, what would say that he had finally become a SWORD members, whats likely as Tashigi seems to have become one too.

Or he ia heading to Egghead and will help the SH to escape

Why would Oda offscreen Smoker leaving the Marines?

I believed he would be part of Kizaru’s retinue to Egghead, but seeing Tashigi with Garp it is possible that he might be at Hachinosu too.

Either way, I don’t see him taking an outright loss in his reappearance.
