In the anime and in the eyes of the general public it absolutely did.
Wano's most "eye-candy" anime clips on YT were reaching millions of views in a few days.
And I legit remember seeing Gear 5 merch everywhere around the time it came out in the anime (i'm from Mexico and markets here get a ton of bootleg slop of whatever's trending and G5 got A LOT of shit).

The arc may have been kind of a train-wreck in terms of writing but it's definitely also the arc that's put OP in the mainstream the most since like, Marineford

It is infact the Arc that put One Piece on the map and it certainly deserves respect , I understand the writing issue perspective as well.

Lmfao Wano or its writing didn't elevate shit. Tik tok edits with the new animation team is what made it big, could be any arc it wouldn't make a difference. That's when toei started taking the anime seriously.
Cut the crap. The animation was always fine. Wano animation has more downsides than good sides.

I like it ok.
I don't really think its the arc that put one piece on the map. One piece has been popular for years. people getting older did a lot for it because when i was young most kids my age thought it was about a farmer.
the anime is unwatchable to me. It is way too drawn out. No shade, just cant sit through it.

Oh, just talking about the anime? Yeah, some of Wano's animation was great! That's probably when the animation got a noticeable bump in quality. As much as people complain about the "auras", they are fun to look at. And then there's the Gear 5 reveal, which at least got people talking.

But, honestly, I don't think that's the reason the larger anime community started paying attention to One Piece again. I think there's three main factors. People getting a chance to binge the series during the lockdowns in 2020. The announcement that we were entering the Final Saga in 2022. And finally, the news and hype surrounding the Netflix live action adaptation. All of which happened while the anime was still in Wano, which lasted from 2019 to 2023. Wano was LONG, and a lot happened in those few years that changed how anime fans saw the series.

The pandemic hurt a lot of industries. But, it really helped give people the time they needed to watch a series that's as long as One Piece. Lapsed fans had time to catch up, and I think a lot of people did. People needed a long show to kill time, and One Piece fit that bill. I feel like there were a few reports of One Piece getting some pretty good streaming numbers from around that time.

Then in June of 2022, Oda announced that we were entering the Final Saga. Which, I think led to even more lapsed fans trying to catch up. People who hadn't been watching since the 4Kids or Toonami days probably decided they wanted to try and catch up so they could see how it all ended.

The Netflix live-action adaptation had already been announced, so that also probably helped drive up some hype among the more casual anime audience. And around the same time that Wano was airing, we were getting looks at the sets and ships that were being built and casting announcements for who were going to play the characters. It all helped get people interested in the original source material.

There's also Film Red coming out right at the tail end of Wano. And the One Piece Odyssey video game that came out in 2023. Maybe not the biggest parts of all of this, but it all helped to fuel the hype machine. It was just more One Piece STUFF that helped give people the impression that this is all a big THING and that they should pay attention to it. Say what you will about marketing, but sometimes it works. People don't want to miss out on a big thing. So, when they see a show getting more popular, and it getting big movies and games, it makes them pay more attention to it.

All of this together probably helped reignite interest in this long-running franchise.

The Wano years just so happened to be the time when a bunch of other One Piece projects and announcements were revealed. All of which helped push One Piece to the forefront of the larger anime world. I'm not sure if we can really say that it was Wano's story that caused a resurgence of interest in One Piece. It was probably a bunch of factors all happening at the same time. Wano certainly didn't seem to hurt anything. And it helped that the animation got a noticeable bump for a few episodes. But, I think those other factors probably played a larger role in One Piece's rise in popularity. There just seemed to be a big push for One Piece across a wide variety of projects around that time.

But, whatever the cause, I'm glad it did. I'm glad people found this story again. I'm glad they got a chance to catch up. I'm glad more people are interested in this story. It's been a fun ride, and I'm glad more people get to enjoy it.
