Why are you comparing Naruto to real life anyway?
Naruto never changes someone's ideologies. He just makes them aware of their hypocrisies, and urges them to be their true selves.
Neji talked about conforming to your roll and accepting destiny, but he showed nothing but contempt to the main branch, and went out of his way to prove his superiority to Hinata. When he's supposed to be subservient to the main branch. Naruto brings this glaring hypocrisy to him and he has no retort.
Gaara spoke of how one can only be strong through solitude and loving only oneself, but deep down all he wants companionship and to be loved by others, even engraving the word into his forehead. Naruto defeats him, and atributes his win to having companions, he also empathizes with Gaara's pain. Gaara then ask himself "if that's what makes him strong... maybe even I can...". He realizes he can be strong and have the companionship he's always been longing for.
Zabuza said that ninjas were emotionless tools to be used, and that he doesn't care about Haku as a person; but deep down he loved his adoptive child. The wall Zabuza put up wasn't very thick, because he hesitated to slice through Haku's corpse. All naruto did was remind him of how much Haku loved him and Zabuza couldn't keep up the act any longer.
Nagato said there is no such thing as true peace and that he's given up on it, and Naruto argue's back by quoting him."If there is such thing as peace I'll grasp it, I'll never give up... blah blah blah", those were Nagato's own words that inspiried Jiraiya to write his book.

The last ninja wars was 16 years ago, and the 4th was fought far from civilians.
Hell, it was such a lossless war that the leaf did a funeral for Neji, nobody gets a funeral if millions of people die.
